Men's Basketball Falls at Endicott, 83-74

Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. - February 3, 2010 -
The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team dropped an 83-74 decision at Endicott on Wednesday evening. Each team moves to 4-4 in the conference, while Endicott's overall record improves to 9-10 and the Chargers' record falls to 11-9.

A back-and-forth opening half featured six ties and four lead changes in the first 20 minutes of action. Junior Chris Galbraith (Lowell, Mass.) helped the Gulls piece together a quick run midway through the frame as he scored four points and added two blocks in a three-minute span to give the hosts a 21-15 lead.

Colby-Sawyer came charging back with consecutive 3-pointers, however Endicott's Erik Callo (Southington, Conn.) countered by picking up the hoop and the foul in transition to return momentum to the Blue and Green. Moments later, Bobby Montrond (Brockton, Mass.) forced a CSC turnover at midcourt and found Whitelaw all alone for an and-one layup, pushing the Gulls into the intermission with a 40-34 lead.

Endicott's lead grew to as many as 11 points in the opening minutes of the second half, yet CSC was still able to shoot its way back into the game. The Chargers, who launched 29 3-pointers on the night, knocked down three-straight treys in a span of 1:43 to cut the deficit to just two and force an Endicott timeout.

The Gulls' lead would hang between two and six points for nearly five minutes before Mike Rhodes (Amston, Conn.) and Lance Greene (Dorchester, Mass.) helped put the game away for good. Rhodes scored 10 of his 14 points in a six minute stretch of the second half while Greene banked home a hanging jumper off the right side to stretch Endicott's lead to nine with 3:27 left in regulation. Whitelaw connected from behind the arc before Aaron Karkow sealed the win with a fast-break dunk to cap the night.

Graham Whitelaw led all scorers with 22 points, the first time he's topped 20 since scoring 26 in the season-opener against Vassar. Lance Greene had 19 while Rhodes finished with 14 points and three assists. Both Karkow and Chris Galbraith had 10 points in the win.

Colby-Sawyer got 15 points from TCCC leading-scorer Jon Chaloux (Barre, Vt.). Dave Rosso (Wilmington, Vt.) had 13 points while Zach McBey (Franklin, N.H.) finished with 12.

The Endicott bench outscored the Colby-Sawyer reserves at a 42-23 clip on the evening. The Gulls also held a 14-8 edge in fast-break points.

Colby-Sawyer will host its annual alumni game at 11:00 am on Saturday prior to a 3:00 pm tip against Salve Regina.
