Chargers Drop 65-55 Decision to Middlebury

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 8, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team dropped to 6-3 on the season, after suffering a 65-55 loss to Middlebury. The Chargers were unable to hang on to a halftime lead, as the Panthers improve to 11-2 behind their strong second half comeback.

The Chargers went into the halftime break leading 28-21, as seven different players scored. Junior Jon Chaloux (Barre, Vt.) led Colby-Sawyer with five points in the first half. Middlebury sophomore center Andrew Locke (Seattle, Wash.) scored six points and registered three blocks for the Panthers in the half.

Middlebury opened the second half on a 12-3 run, taking the lead at 33-31, behind the play of Tim Edwards (Greenwich, Conn.) and Ben Rudin (Scarsdale, N.Y.). Edwards registered a double-double with a game-high 14 points and 10 rebounds. Rudin had a solid game, tallying 11 points, four rebounds and three assists. The Panthers as a team, shot an impressive 62.1% from the field in the second half.
Colby-Sawyer cut the Middlebury lead to six at 55-49, after a three-pointer from senior Duncan Szeliga (Newmarket, N.H.) with less than five minutes left, but they could not cool down the Panthers shooting.

Freshman Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) finished the game with 14 points, shooting 3-5 from three-point land. Senior guard Matt Lemieux (Manchester, N.H.) played well collecting eight assists and six rebounds.

The Chargers will begin their conference play on Saturday, January 10 as they host the Pride of Regis at 1:00 pm.
