Chargers Earn 63-34 Win Over Lesley

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 27, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team defeated Lesley, 63-34, in a non-conference match-up. The Chargers improved their overall record to 12-4, while the Lynx dropped to 3-13 on the season. Senior Duncan Szeliga (Newmarket, N.H.) collected a double-double as he scored a game-high 12 points and collected 11 rebounds.

Colby-Sawyer's defense held the Lynx to only five first-half field goals and forced 16 turnovers. Szeliga scored nine of his points in the half on 3-5 shooting, including one from downtown, while freshman Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) netted two three pointers himself, giving the Chargers a comfortable 33-11, halftime lead. Lynx sophomore, Jesus Trejo (Methuen, Mass.) scored five points and grabbed eight rebounds.

The Chargers continued to play outstanding defense in the second half, as the team held Lesley to 31.3% from the field. Along with his offensive performance, Szeliga registered four blocked shots. Senior point guard Matt Lemieux (Manchester, N.H.) had a solid game, collecting five assists, five rebounds and four steals.

It was a total team effort, as nine different Chargers scored baskets. Along with Szeliga, junior David Rosso (Wilmington, Vt.) scored double-digits, with 10 points of his own. Chris Cox (Barre, Vt.) contributed off the bench with six points and five rebounds.

For Lesley, Trejo finished with a team-high nine points and senior Malcolm Andrews (Medford, Mass) ripped down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Colby-Sawyer will begin conference play again, as they travel to Eastern Nazarene, on Thursday, January 29, for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
