CONCORD, N.H. – December 2, 2008 - The Colby-Sawyer Chargers earned an 87-83 win over Plymouth State in the second game of the 9th Annual Jacob's Bridge Through Autism Basketball classic, held on Tuesday evening at NHTI. The win pushes Colby-Sawyer's record to 3-2, while Plymouth State falls to 2-3.
In a back and forth first half that featured 11 lead changes and five ties, the Chargers shot 50% from the floor to take a 44-38 lead into the locker room. Colby-Sawyer held the six-point lead at the half behind 11 points from junior David Rosso (Wilmington, Vt.) and senior Duncan Szeliga (Newmarket, N.H.). The Panthers were able to keep it close with 50% shooting from beyond the arc including two three-pointers from Jason O'Keefe.
Colby-Sawyer saw their slim lead slip away seven minutes into the second half when Tom Dowd connected on two free throws to give the Panthers a 53-52 lead. Dowd finished the game with 14 points on 5-7 shooting. The game would be tied three more times in the half until but the Chargers would lead the game for the last nine minutes. Both teams were very efficient from the floor with the Chargers shooting 54.7% and the Panthers shooting 48.1%. Each team connected on five of 15 three-point attempts.
Rosso finished with a game-high 21 points for Colby-Sawyer and Szeliga poured in 16 and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. Senior Matt Lemieux (Manchester, N.H.) contributed 13 points on 5-6 shooting and a game-high seven assists. Freshman Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) hit three three-pointers and finished with 19 points.
Ben Huntington led five players in double-figures for Plymouth State with 17 points. Ryan Lambert had a solid game with 12 points and six rebounds. Mike Chergy and O'Keefe each finished with 11 points.
The Chargers are back in action this weekend with two games at the Norwich tournament beginning on Saturday, December 6 with an 8:00 p.m. game against Worcester State. The Panthers will travel to No. 20 Tufts on Thursday, December 4 for a game at 7:00 p.m.
