BASEBALL FALLS TO BLUE JAYS IN WEEKEND MATCH-UP

West Hartford, CT – The Chargers took on the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday for a GNAC doubleheader. 

Rapid Recap Game 1: 

  • Mike Hogan (Piermont, NH) started on the mound for the Chargers, and Aaron LaRose started on the mound for the Blue Jays. 

  • The Chargers got the scoring going in the top of the 1st with a sac fly from right fielder Jesse Chaves (Taunton, MA). Sean Roeger (Salem, NH) hit an RBI single later in the inning to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead. 

  • In the 2nd inning, Jack Kushman hit an RBI single for the Blue Jays. 

  • Dom Scalia hit an RBI single into center field in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game at 2-2. Kushman homered into left field in the bottom of the 6th. Later in the inning, Jack Kane hit a 2 RBI single. The Blue Jays won the game 5-2. 

Inside the Numbers Game 1: 

  • Hogan pitched the complete game for the Chargers. 

  • Kushman was 2-3 from the plate for the Blue Jays. 

  • The Chargers combined for two stolen bases in game 1. 

Rapid Recap Game 2: 

  • Zach Ferris (Stratham, NH) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Kaden Murphy was the starting pitcher for the Blue Jays. 

  • JJ Fox, Kane, and Scalia all earned RBIs for the Blue Jays in the 2nd inning to give the hosts a 3-0 lead. 

  • The Chargers responded in the top of the 3rd with an RBI single from Putnam. Mike McLeer (Saco, ME) hit an RBI sac fly into center field for the second Charger run of the game. 

  • In the bottom of the 3rd, Ben Balducci hit an RBI single into left center to make it 4-2 for the Blue Jays. 

  • The Blue Jays scored six runs in the 5th inning. Evan Dennis hit a single for the Chargers in the top of the 7th. In the bottom of the 7th, the Blue Jays scored two runs. The Blue Jays won the game 12-2. 

Inside the Numbers Game 2: 

  • Dennis and Chaves both recorded two hits in the game. 

  • Fox was 3-4 from the plate for the Blue Jays. 

  • The Chargers combined for six hits and two stolen bases. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will return to action on Monday for a doubleheader against Lasell at the Kelsey Baseball Field, with game 1 set to start at 12pm.
