BASEBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST CADETS ON THE ROAD

Northfield, VT – The Chargers split games in the doubleheader with the Norwich Cadets on Friday. Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT) hit his second home run of the season on Friday. 

Rapid Recap Game 1: 

  • Micah McMannus (Beverly, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Carson Rath was the starting pitcher for the Cadets.  

  • Dylan Watson (Byfield, MA) hit an RBI single into right field in the top of the 1st inning for Colby-Sawyer. In the bottom of the 1st, the Cadets tied it up with a run from Jack Medhurst. 

  • Noah Staffier (Beverly, MA) got the lead back for Colby-Sawyer in the 2nd inning with an RBI double. Jacob Putnam (North Haverhill, NH) and Mike McLeer (Saco, ME) each hit RBI singles to give the Chargers a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the 2nd. 

  • Staffier hit an RBI single in the 3rd. Later in the inning, Dennis hit a three-run home run to center field to give the Chargers an 8-1 lead. In the 5th, Putnam hit a 2 RBI single and McLeer hit an RBI single to make the scoreline 11-1 for the Chargers. 

  • In the bottom of the 5th, Alex DeTomasis and Michael Davide Jr. each scored runs for the Cadets. John O'Connor hit a 2 RBI double and Kaden Jones hit an RBI single. The Chargers led 11-6 going into the 6th inning. 

  • Staffier and Janai Cruz (Manchester, NH) both earned an RBI in the 6th to bring in two more runs for the Chargers. The Cadets scored three runs in the 6th and two runs in the 7th inning. 

  • The Chargers won game 1, 13-11. 

Inside the Numbers Game 1: 

  • McMannus, Ryan Kane (Franklin, MA), and Jared Schmitt (Surry, NH) all pitched for the Chargers. McMannus earned his third win of the season. Schmitt earned his first save of the season. 

  • Dennis hit his second home run of the season. Putnam was 4-5 from the plate, and Staffier was 3-3 from the plate. 

  • O'Connor was 3-4 from the plate for the Cadets. 

  • The Chargers combined for 19 hits in game 1. 

Rapid Recap Game 2: 

  • Will Carpenter (Medfield, MA) started on the mound for the Chargers, and Jon Tetzlaff started on the mound for the Cadets. 

  • Michael Sebasteanski scored for the Cadets in the 1st inning to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Staffier hit an RBI single in the 2nd inning to tie the game up 1-1. Davide Jr. scored in the bottom of the 2nd for Norwich to give the Cadets a 2-1 lead. McLeer scored the tying run for the Chargers in the top of the 3rd. 

  • In the bottom of the 6th, Kevin Ohlsen hit an RBI single for the Cadets. Later in the inning, Sebasteanski hit a four-run home run. The Cadets won the game 7-2. 

Inside the Numbers Game 2: 

  • McLeer, Jesse Chaves (Taunton, MA), and Staffier all had two hits for the Chargers in game 2. 

  • Medhurst was 2-3 from the plate for the Cadets. 

  • The Chargers combined for nine hits. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will next play a doubleheader on Saturday at the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.).
