MCLEER, DENNIS EACH WALK IT OFF IN SWEEP OVER RAIDERS

New London, NH – The Chargers completed the weekend 4-0, as they won two nail-biting matches on Sunday with walk offs deciding both games. The Chargers and Raiders competed hard in both games, with one run being the difference in each game. 

Game 1 Rapid Recap: 

  • Dylan Watson (Byfield, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Nate Bonacorsi was the starting pitcher for the Raiders. 

  • The first three innings finished scoreless. In the 4th, Dylan Alberti earned an RBI for the Raiders to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Liam Stott grounded out to second base but scored Nathan Innerfield for Rivier in the process. David Miller added a run for the Raiders with an RBI single, and Alex Gallicano hit a 2 RBI single to give the Raiders a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the 4th. 

  • The Chargers responded in the bottom of the 4th, as Sean Roeger hit an RBI double to get one run back. Noah Staffier (Beverly, MA) stepped up next for the Chargers and hit an RBI single. Jared Schmitt (Surry, NH) earned an RBI as well to cut the deficit to two runs. Jacob Putnam (North Haverhill, NH) hit a 2 RBI single to left field to tie the game up 5-5. Mike McLeer (Saco, ME) got the Chargers the lead with an RBI single to make it a 6-5 ballgame.  

  • Innerfield hit an RBI triple in the 5th to tie the game back up. Alberti earned a Raider RBI to give the Raiders a one-run lead. In the 6th, Sebastian Reis extended Rivier's lead by one run with an RBI single into right field. 

  • In the bottom of the 6th, Putnam hit an RBI single bunt to cut the deficit to one-run. McLeer hit an RBI double to tie the game up. 

  • In the bottom of the 8th, with Putnam on second and one out, McLeer hit a walk off single into left field to score Putnam. The Chargers won the game 9-8. 

Game 1 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Watson and Simon Keary (Penacook, NH) pitched for the Chargers in game 1. Both pitchers threw four strikeouts. Keary earned the win to go 2-1 on the season. 

  • McLeer had a career-high four hits in the game. Watson, Putnam, and Staffier all had two hits. 

  • Colton Colleran was 2-5 from the plate for the Raiders. 

  • The Chargers combined for 13 hits in the game. 

Game 2 Rapid Recap: 

  • Will Carpenter (Medfield, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Jake O'Connor was the starting pitcher for the Raiders. 

  • Colleran scored the first run of the game for the Raiders in the 1st. Gallicano hit an RBI sac fly to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead. 

  • In the 2nd, Staffier hit an RBI double for the Chargers, and Devin Montalvo (Coram, NY) hit a 2 RBI single to give Colby-Sawyer a 3-2 lead. 

  • Innerfield tied the game for Rivier with an RBI double in the 3rd. 

  • McLeer singled into center field in the 5th to earn an RBI and score Watson for a 4-3 Charger lead. 

  • Stott hit an RBI single for the Raiders in the top of the 7th to tie the game up 4-4. 

  • In the bottom of the 7th, with two outs, and runners on 1st and 2nd, Evan Dennis hit a walk off single into center field to score Putnam. The Chargers won 5-4. 

Game 2 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Carpenter pitched 6.1 innings and earned six strikeouts. Connor Fowler (Hampton Falls, NH) and Colby Russell (Dover, NH) also pitched for the Chargers. Russell earned his first career win. 

  • Dennis and Roeger both had three hits in the game. Watson was 2-4 from the plate. 

  • Stott was 2-3 from the plate for the Raiders. 

  • The Chargers combined for 11 hits. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will next play against Plymouth State University on Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader.
