BASEBALL BATTLES WITH MARINERS IN GNAC MATCH-UP

New London, CT – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team played two matches against Mitchell College on Saturday. 

Game 1 Rapid Recap: 

  • Micah McMannus (Beverly, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Thai-ler Sestokas was the starting pitcher for the Mariners. 

  • Noah Staffier (Beverly, MA) hit a single in the top of the 2nd inning for the Chargers. Both teams played strong defensively as the game was scoreless after three innings. 

  • Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT) hit a single for the Chargers in the top of the 4th. In the bottom of the 4th, Christopher Piscione scored for the Mariners. Jayden Sgro hit a 2 RBI single for the Mariners, followed by an RBI single from Ryan Dennis. The Mariners led 4-0 after the 4th. 

  • Janai Cruz (Manchester, NH) and Dylan Watson (Byfield, MA) each hit a single in the 5th and 6th innings respectively, for the Chargers. The Mariners scored seven runs in the 6th inning. The Mariners won 11-0. 

Game 1 Inside the Numbers: 

  • McMannus pitched 5.0 innings and threw six strikeouts. McMannus has a season ERA of 0.43. 

  • Watson, Dennis, Staffier, and Cruz each hit a single in game 1. 

  • Piscione was 2-3 from the plate for the Mariners. 

  • The Chargers combined for 18 putouts and seven assists in the game. 

Game 2 Rapid Recap: 

  • Will Carpenter (Medfield, MA) started on the mound for the Chargers, and Andrew Manzo started on the mound for the Mariners. 

  • The Chargers started the game off strong with runs from Watson and Mike McLeer (Saco, ME) to give Colby-Sawyer a 2-0 lead. Kenneth Miller Jr. hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 1st for Mitchell. The Mariners scored one run in the 2nd inning and one run in the 3rd inning to give the Mariners a 3-2 lead. 

  • In the top of the 5th inning, Junior Jesse Chaves (Taunton, MA) hit an RBI single to tie the game up 3-3. The Mariners scored two runs in the 7th inning.
