COACH SCIRIA PICKS UP FIRST HEAD COACHING WIN OVER ROOS

New London, NH – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team won a close matchup at home on Saturday against SUNY Canton. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Emmanuel Adarkwa (Lawrenceville, GA) and Logan Lapierre Caissie (Ontario, Canada) would get the scoring started, to help the Chargers to a 4-0 early lead. About two minutes later, Tobey Bellows knocked down a three as the Chargers would lead 9-7. The Kangaroos would score the next eight points, but the Chargers would stay strong as Andrew Blunt (Alexandria, VA) converted a layup. A Sean Peterson (Chester, NH) layup and a three from Adarkwa would see the Chargers cut the deficit to one-point. Tevin Edmunds would score a layup and a free throw to be the sixth Charger to score on the day. Elijah Thomas (Fairfax, VA) would score the next three buckets for the Chargers. A layup by Peterson and a three plus a jumper from Bellows would see the Chargers take a one-point lead. Layups from Thomas and Peterson would help the Chargers to a 36-32 lead at the half. 

  • The Chargers would start the second half strong with a 12-0 run. That run included two threes from Bellows, two layups from Lapierre Caissie, and a layup from Thomas. About two minutes later, the Chargers would lead 52-34 after layups from Bellows and Blunt. Two buckets each from Peterson and Adarkwa would help the Chargers to a 62-49 lead with 8:17 left in the game. With about seven minutes left, Adarkwa knocked down a three. Peterson and Adarkwa would each score baskets as the Chargers would lead 70-60 with 3:45 left. The Kangaroos would work their way to a two-point deficit, as the Chargers would lead 74-72 with 33 seconds left on the clock. Edmunds would score two critical free throws to give the Chargers a four-point lead. The Kangaroos would score two quick baskets in succession to make a 76-76 ball game with 11 seconds to go. A nice team play would lead to Thomas making a layup and a free throw to put the Chargers up 79-76 with one second left on the clock. The Chargers would win the game 79-78. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Saturday's win is the first win for Coach Shannon Sciria as Head Coach of the Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team. 

  • Elijah Thomas scored the game winning shot and ended the game with 13 points and seven rebounds.  

  • Bellows ended the game with 20 points and seven rebounds. 

  • Adarkwa ended the game with 16 points. 

  • Lateef Johnson Jr. led the scoring for the Kangaroos with 19 points. 

  • The Chargers ended the game shooting 50% from three-point range.

The Chargers return to the Hogan Sports Center on Wednesday evening as they will play against Fisher College at 7pm.
