CASTLETON, VT. - The Colby-Sawyer Chargers men's soccer team kept the pressure on in their matchup against the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans on Friday after, where they would fall 4-1.
Rapid Recap:
- The first half saw the Chargers forcing multiple chances off a couple shots and corner kicks while keeping the Spartans to limited opportunities. The Spartans would not record their first shot until the 21st minute of the game. The Chargers would force more chances off a couple shots. However, Castleton broke the 0-0 tie in the 31st minute, when Michael O'Connor landed his shot on net from Jacques Alfani and Matt Spiller. The Chargers wouldn't give up as they recorded three more shots, and other corner kick before halftime would hit.
- Colby-Sawyer came out looking for the equalizer in the second half, pulling level just 90 seconds in. First Year Landon Blanco (Boca Raton, Fla.) would notch his first career collegiate goal off an assist by Kaden Lewis (Lunenburg, Mass.) that would tie the game at 1.Â
- As the second half continued, the Spartans would jump out to a 2-1 lead after a goal by Sean Butler following the two teams going back and forth. The Chargers continued to add additional pressure, while forcing another corner three more shots just 90 seconds apart from each other to try knot the game once again. The Spartans would come back firing as after all the Chargers attempts, Castleton would score again to open their lead to 3-1 on a goal by Seth Dube assisted by Tanner Curtis
- Â The Spartans would add another goal to their lead in the 64th minute on a goal by Liam Cramer assisted by Matt Spiller. The Chargers would continue to add more pressure by ripping shot after shot, but would get stopped each time by the Spartans.
Inside the Numbers:Â
- The Chargers pressure would lead to them out shooting the Spartans 15-11 in a valiant effort to charge back into the game. The Chargers would draw 6 corners compared to the 2 that the Spartans would draw.
- Evan Whalen (Barrington, N.H.) would record four saves in all 90 minutes of time in net, marking his first full game in goal this season.
- Landon Blanco's lone goal for the Chargers marks his first collegiate goal, while Lewis assist marks his first of the season.
