NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team is making waves in the international department as Bridget O'Connell has received a tryout with a professional team in Salerno, Italy.
After a successful career with the Chargers, O'Connell is hoping to bring her talents overseas to compete in Italy and continuing her career. O'Connell has left her mark on this program becoming the program leader in points, and goals scored. She finished her career with 58 goals, and 134 points with 13 game winners over the course of four years. She will look to bring that same dominance and energy to her tryout from May 13th - May 29th 2025.
O'Connell's tryout will be for Salernitana 1919 in Italy Serie C - 3rd division professional soccer.
"I'm incredibly honored to be presented with the opportunity to not only continue my soccer career, but potentially play professional soccer" said O'Connell. "I would not be where I am today without the Colby-Sawyer women's soccer program, my coaches, teammates, friends, and especially my family. The support I have received over the last four years has been so amazing. I am looking forward to begin this journey in Italy."
"I think this is an opportunity that Bridget has earned after having arguably the best college career of anyone who put the Colby-Sawyer jersey on" said women's soccer head coach
Anthony Cosky. "She broke the all-time career goals and points records convincingly, and she made the All-Region Second team two straight years. She was the conference offensive player of the year her junior year. Everyone in our conference is thrilled they won't have to put Bridget on their scouting report anymore. She is a special player and I believe she can play Professional soccer. I'm really happy for her to be given this chance to play in Italy which is where she studied abroad and I think it's meant to be. I also believe this could lead to other opportunities and if she really wants to, Bridget can become a professional soccer player. I think it's great for our program for her to be able to try out for a professional soccer team. It just proves you don't have to play division 1 soccer to have the opportunity to play at the next level. I hope Bridget does well and earns a spot on the team, but I know this won't be her only opportunity."
