Chargers Hold Off Hawks Late Rally

Bennington, Vt.  – The Charger women's tennis picked up a huge win over the Empire 8 champions, Hartwick College 4-3 on Friday afternoon. The Chargers end the regular season with an overall 12-7 record.  
Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers would claim the opening point sweeping all three doubles positions. The duo of first-year Sky Jara (South Hamilton, Mass.) and senior Elise Hogan (Duxbury, Mass.) claimed a 6-1 win at number one while the duo of first-year Avery Nielsen (Thornhill, Ontario) and sophomore Payton Dugan (Vincennes, Ind.) would cruise to a 6-0 win at number three.
  • The Hawks continued to battle and picked up three quick wins to take a 3-1 lead over the Chargers. Senior Isabella Gutierrez Avendano (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) picked up a big 6-7, 6-1, 10-3 win at number three while Hogan cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number four. Nielsen would clinch the match for the Chargers winning 6-4, 6-1 at number five.

"Today was a special win for many reasons," said senior Elise Hogan (Duxbury, Mass.). "The intensity of the match showed how resilient and focused our team is, especially under pressure. It was really valuable for the seniors to have such a positive experience as this is one of our last matches. I'm really proud of the effort our team has put in and I can't wait to see how we handle the NCAA tournament."

Up Next: 
The Chargers will take a quick break as they await their seeding and location for the NCAA Division III tournament as the first round is set to begin from May 9th – 11th.
