MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team wrapped up their trip to Myrtle Beach with a big time win over The Apprentice School, Friday morning.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers struck early behind a lead off double by Junior Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) where he would advance to third on a hit and run by Sophomore Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT.). The Chargers would double steal with Dennis taking second, and Watson taking home on the throw down.Â
- Watson would lead the charge in the second inning as he hit a double into left center field, scoring Mike Krouse (Peabody, Mass.) and Noah Staffier (Beverly, Mass.) to take an early 3-0 lead.Â
- Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) would continue the scoring for the Chargers as he would double to drive in Dennis, putting the Chargers up 4-0 in the fifth inning. Apprentice would get three runs back in the top of the seventh inning, making it a 4-3 game. The Chargers offense would explode in the bottom of the seventh inning that would start with a rbi sacrifice bunt from Staffier that scored O'Brien. Griffin Wheeler (Penacook, N.H.) hit a single that would bring home Sean Roeger (Salem, N.H.) and Devin Montalvo (Coram, NY.). Watson would hit his second double of the day scoring Staffier.Â
On the Mound:
- Will Carpenter (Medfield, Mass.) would get the start, working 5.0 innings while on his way to giving up no runs on two hits, while striking out four. First Year, Connor St. Gelais (Tyngsboro, Mass.) would get his first collegiate save of his young career as he would pitch the last 4.0 innings, while allowing two earned runs on eight hits.Â
At the Plate:Â
- Dylan Watson would lead the way for the Chargers as he put together a three-for-four day with three runs batted in, with two doubles. Griffin Wheeler would get two runs batted in on a two-for-four day. Evan Dennis would go two-for-three with a double. O'Brien, Krouse, and Staffier would all pick up a run batted in each for the Chargers.
