CHARGERS SET TO CONTINUE OUT OF CONFERENCE SCHEDULE AGAINST MIDDLEBURY

New London, NH – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team (4-5) will travel to Middlebury, Vermont on Saturday to take on the Middlebury Panthers (5-2) of the NESCAC in a non-conference matchup. 

The Chargers are coming off a 74-64 loss to Plymouth State University on Wednesday. Saturday will be the Chargers' sixth game on the road as part of an eight-game road stretch. The Chargers are 2-3 in their last five games, notably beating Medgar Evers College in the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament 76-59 last Sunday. 

The Panthers have won three on the bounce, including wins against Skidmore College and Oswego State. Saturday will see the Panthers close out their three-game home stretch at Pepin Gymnasium. This will be the second and final game for Middlebury against a GNAC opponent this season, after having played Norwich University on November 18. 

The Chargers: 

  • Tanner Drury (Bethel, VT) – The Sophomore guard is the second-highest scoring Charger on the year (113). Drury has had two 20+ point games this year and is averaging 12.6 points per game. Drury is also shooting 32.7% from three-point range. 

  • Makenna Grillone (Walpole, NH) – The Junior guard scored 18 points in the last game against Plymouth State, going 3-4 from three-point range. Grillone is averaging 7.8 points per game. 

  • Lauren MacDonald (Tilton, NH) – The Sophomore guard has been the leader in rebounds (53) for the Chargers this season. MacDonald has scored double digits in each of the last five games and has two double-doubles this year. 

The Panthers: 

  • Teagan Lind – The Sophomore forward is the Panthers' points leader this year, averaging 12.7 points a game. Lind has had four 15+ point games so far this season. 

  • Islay Moore – The First Year forward is leading the Panthers in rebounds, averaging 7.1 rebounds per game. Moore is also averaging 9.3 points per game and has scored over 10 points in the last two games. 

  • Gabby Stuart – The Senior guard has scored 10 points in each of the last two games for Middlebury. Stuart also has 16 steals this season so far. 

The Historical Matchup: 

The Chargers have won this matchup seven times and the Panthers have won the matchup 19 times. They last played each other in the 2022-2023 season when the Panthers won 55-38. 

Looking Ahead: 

After this game the Chargers will play another NESCAC opponent, Amherst College, on Wednesday in Amherst, Massachusetts at 7pm.
