Chargers Conclude Season in Loss to Regis in the GNAC Play-In Round

Box Score WESTON, Mass.  – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team concluded its 2023-24 season on Monday afternoon in Weston, falling to Regis by a 60-32 final in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play-in round. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers trailed early after two free throws, two buckets and old fashioned three point play by Madi Zancan to give the Pride a 9-0 start over the first seven minutes. First year Catherine Chick (Glen, N.H.) stopped the run with a bucket on an assists by first year Larissa Daigle (Fort Kent, Maine).  The teams combined for 4-30 in the first quarter as we ended with Regis leading 9-2. 
  • Courtney Doherty trickled in the first five points of the quarter and after a three by Jordyn Striggles the Pride opened the game up to 17-2. Sophomore Makenna Grillone (Walpole, N.H.) stopped the run momentarily with a three. Junior Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) added another basket followed by a second three for Grillone to cut the home team lead to 17-10. Regis continued on the attack ending the quarter with an 8-0 spurt to lead 25-10 into the break. 
  • A bucket by Brewster and Grillone kicked off the second half, but the Pride continued its attack going on a counter 9-0 run to push the lead to 37-14. Colby-Sawyer responded with a 7-4 run with a basket for Daigle, but the Pride responded right back with eight-straight points to push the lead back to 49-21 headed into the final 10 minutes. 
  • Colby-Sawyer started the fourth with some fight getting a three by graduate student Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.) and a pair of free throws by junior Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) to cut the Pride lead to 25.  The Pride maintained control to win the game handily. 
Inside the Numbers:
  •  Grillone led the scoring output for the Chargers with eight points (3-5 FG, 2-3 3PT) to go with three rebounds. Brewster registered six points (3-9 FG, 0-1 3PT, 0-2 FT), seven rebounds and a pair of helpers. Daigle added two points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3PT), four rebounds and an assist. 
  • Zancan led the Pride with 18 points (5-8 FG, 1-1 3PT, 7-9 FT), 11 rebounds and two assists. Doherty added 13 points (4-8 FG, 3-5 3PT, 2-2 FT) and two helpers. 
  • The Pride outscored the Chargers 20-5 on second chance points while also getting a 15 free throws compared to just six for CSC.
