WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell on Saturday night in the regular season finale to the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) by a 91-70 final. Althought the Chargers lost they will be in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Play-In round taking on Rivier on Monday.
Rapid Recap:
- Junior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) finished a basket in the early going to even the score, but the Blue Jays responded with eight-straight points to lead 11-3. Martin and junior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) added baskets to cut the deficit to 13-9. After a USJ bucket the Chargers battled back again as junior Mike Joanou (Burbank, Calif.) laced a shot from behind the arc and a first year Sean Peterson (Chester, N.H.) post hook. Junior Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C.) answered a three-pointer from the Blue Jays with one of his own, but USJ would not surrender the lead with a 12-0 run to open the game back up. Graduate student Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) and Parker each added buckets to try and stop the momentum, but the Blue Jays continued to soar extending the lead to 47-25 headed into the break.
- Peterson started out the second half with a jumper followed by a 13-2 run for the visitors with three-pointers by Martin and Joanou had the Chargers back in the game only down 11. The Blue Jays countered with 10 points in a row stopped by another Martin paint finish. USJ added another 9-0 spurt to jump the lead to 75-46 with 6:32 to play. Jenkins tried to get the Chargers back into it with five-straight points part of a 7-0 Charger run, but the Blue Jays kept the lead above 20 with under 2:30 to play. Jenkins drilled two threes and Martin got another finish, but the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) held on for the win.
Inside the Numbers:
- Martin poured in a career-best 24 points (8-12 FG, 2-3 3PT, 6-8 FT) to go with six assists, five rebounds and three steals to lead the Chargers effort. Jenkins tallied 13 points (5-10 FG, 3-8 3PT) to go with three boards. Cullum registered 11 points (5-14 FG, 1-3 FT), five rebounds, four steals and three assists, while Joanou added nine points (3-4 FG, 3-3 3PT) and a board.
- Jalen Samuels notched 23 points (10-15 FG, 3-4 FT), seven rebounds and four steals in the win, while Tyree Mitchell added 20 points (8-13 FG, 4-7 3PT, 0-2 FT), five rebounds and four assists.

The Chargers will take on inner-state rival Rivier on Monday with a 7:00 PM tip.
