Chargers Conclude Season in GNAC Play-In with Loss to Rivier

Box Score NASHUA, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Play-In Round to Rivier by a 98-70 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The teams battled back and forth with the Raiders taking an early 9-7 lead on a pair of threes by O'darius Cade. Junior Mike Joanou (Burbank, Calif.) added back to back jumpers but the Raiders led 15-11 early. Graduate Student Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) nailed a three to cut the deficit back to four points with under nine minutes to play. Rivier battled back pushing the lead to 35-20 on a 11-0 run. The Raiders continued to shine with another 7-3 run to take a huge 42-24 lead. The Chargers scored eight more points, but so did the Raiders as it was 51-33 going into the break. 
  • Joanou and Jenkins each netted jumpers as the Chargers tried to start a comeback at 54-38, but Cade continue to take the game over with a 5-0 run by himself. The lead ballooned to 24 as Groves netted a three to extend the lead. The Chargers chipped away sparked by a pair of tough baskets by junior Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C.) and another by junior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) as Colby-Sawyer trailed by 20 with 10:39 to play. The Raiders responded with another 11-4 run to jump the lead to 82-56 with under eight minutes to play. The teams traded baskets with the Raiders closing out the game to move on. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Joanou led the Charges with 15 points (7-12 FG, 1-3 3PT), 10 rebounds and two assists. Junior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) tallied 15 points (6-16 FG, 0-2 3PT, 3-4 FT) and four rebounds. Parker added 11 points (5-10 FG, 0-3 3PT, 1-3 FT) and two rebounds. 
  • Cade paced the Raiders with 40 points (14-22 FG, 6-11 3PT, 6-6 FT), eight rebounds and four assists. Groves added 20 points (9-12 FG, 1-2 3PT, 1-1 FT) eight rebounds and four helpers.
