Chargers Fall in Home Finale to Regis

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball dropped their third-straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game on Wednesday falling to Regis by a 68-54 final. With the loss the Chargers fall to 10th in the GNAC Playoff Picture with a single game to play. 

Rapid Recap:
  • Sophomore Sadiq Abdullahi (Homestead, Fla.) kicked off the game with a layup from junior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.), but the Pride countered with five-straight to take an early lead. Junior Mike Joanou (Burbank, Calif.) and first year Sean Peterson (Chester, N.H.) got the lead right back with a jumper and three. The teams traded baskets with Regis holding a 20-15 lead with 8:06 to play in the first half. Martin added a pair of free throws as the Chargers continued to try and battle back, but the Pride stayed strong taking a 28-22 lead into the halftime break.
  • Graduate student Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) kicked off the second half with a tough finish, followed by two free throws to cut the visitors lead to 30-27, but a 8-2 counter by the Pride got the lead back to nine points. Martin and junior Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C.) each added buckets, but the Pride continued to answer with threes to jump the lead to 45-35 with 11:09 to play. A layup by Martin cut the defecit to 48-41 with 8:47 to play, but the Pride blossomed the lead to 60-43 en route to an east 68-54 win. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Joanou led the Chargers with 12 points (5-13 FG, 0-2 3PT, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds and three swipes. Martin registered 17 points (4-14 FG, 0-3 3PT, 9-14 FT), 12 rebounds and three assists, while Parker added 10 points (4-12 FG, 0-1 3PT, 2-3 FT) and two steals. 
  • Russell Rau led the Pride with 21 points (9-17 FG, 3-8 3PT), 13 rebounds and three blocks. Zakaria Latifi added 11 points (4-12 FG, 3-9 3PT), 10 rebounds and four assists. 
Up Next: 
The Chargers will conclude the regular season in West Hartford, Conn. to take on the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday with a 3:00 PM start.
