Chargers Can't Defeat Emmanuel 94-75

BOSTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell on Saturday to Emmanuel by a 94-75 margin in Boston. With the loss the Chargers hold the 8th seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Playoffs with two games to play.

Rapid Recap:
  • Donte Pope led the Saints from the start of the game scoring two threes to hold a 6-4 lead. Three free throws by junior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) and a three-pointer by graduate student Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) gave Colby-Sawyer a 10-6 lead after four minutes. Another 6-0 spurt by the visitors ended by a finish by junior Bullen Taban (Phoenix, Ariz.) grew the lead to 16-9. Five points for Cullum and another triple by Jenkins pushed the lead to 12 points in favor of the Chargers. The teams traded baskets over the next couple of minutes, before Emmanuel closed with three-straight baskets to cut the deficit to 41-36 going into the break. 
  • A Jenkins layup kept the Chargers in front by a 43-39 margin, but a 9-2 run by the Saints gave Emmanuel a 48-45 lead. Sophomore Sadiq Abdullahi (Homestead, Fla.), Martin and junior Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C.) kept the Charger within 54-56, but the Saints countered with a 9-3 run to hold a six point advantage with 8:50 to play. Parker netted an old fashioned three-point play and another jumper, while Cullum scored to bring the deficit to within 68-66, but the Saints once again battled back with a devastating 14-2 run to hold a 84-68 lead with 4:08 to play. The Saints cruised the rest of the way eventually winning by a 94-75 margin. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Cullum led the offense with a new career-best of 27 points (10-18 FG, 1-3 3PT, 6-9 FT) to go with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jenkins followed as the only other Charger in double-figures with 15 points (5-17 FG, 3-13 3PT, 2-2 FT) off the bench. Martin and Parker each added eight points with Martin (4-12 FG, 0-2 3PT) adding five rebounds and Parker (3-5 FG, 1-2 3PT) scoring his points in just eight minutes. 
  • Pope led the Saints with 30 points (10-17 FG, 5-7 3PT, 5-9 FT), five rebounds and three assists. Zaire Baines added 19 points (7-12 FG, 3-5 3PT, 2-2 FT), nine assists and eight rebounds.
