NEWTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell on Thursday night to Lasell by a 81-64 final to fall to 3-6 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
Rapid Recap:
- Junior Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) kicked off the game lacing a three-pointer as the Chargers started with a 8-4 lead capped off by another three from graduate student Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.). The Lasers responded with a 8-4 run to even things up at 12-12. Lasell continued to take control jumping the lead to 19-12 with seven consecutive points stopped by a floater by junior Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) as the Chargers trailed by five into the break.
- Holt netted her second triple, while junior Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) scored back-to-back layups as the Chargers cut the deficit to 24-21 with 6:31 to play. First year Emma Felker (Dracut, Mass.) laced a three to keep the visitors trailing by four, but the Lasers kept scoring using a 12-4 run to push the lead to 12 points. Felker and first year Catherine Chick (Glen, N.H.) each added threes to close the half to cut the Laser lead to 42-34 headed into the break.
- The Lasell attack stayed strong jumping the lead back to 12, but a sophomore Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) three followed by another by Molettieri kept the Chargers within eight points mid-way through the third quarter. The Lasers responded once again closing the quarter on a 9-1 run to hold a 17 point lead into the final 10 minutes.
- The teams traded buckets with the home team once again taking advantage of runs with a 20 point lead. Brewster and junior Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) each made jumpers to try and start a run for the Chargers. Molettieri dropped her third three of the game and Brewster added a layup, but the Lasers stayed consistent holding the lead and picking up the 81-64 win.
Inside the Numbers:
- Molettieri was one of three Chargers in double figures with 13 points (5-10 FG, 3-6 3PT) to go with three rebounds. Brewster was next with 11 points (5-8 FG, 1-2 FT) and six rebounds. Holt rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points (4-12 FG, 2-5 3PT) to go with two assists and a steal. Mitchell continues to stuff the stat sheet with seven points (3-9 FG, 1-2 3PT, 0-2 FT), 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
- Kiara Cerruti paced the Lasers with 21 points (8-15 FG, 3-6 3PT, 2-4 FT), four rebounds and three steals. Shirle Major added 20 points, six steals and three rebounds.
- The Lasers were great defensively causing 27 Charger turnovers for 31 points, while Colby-Sawyer forced 20 turnovers for 12 points.
- The Chargers currently sit in the 11th spot in the GNAC Playoff Race in a three-way tie with Johnson & Wales and Elms with five conference games to play.
