Chick's Huge Fourth Quarter Lifts Chargers Over AMCATS 59-56

NEW LONDON, N.H.  – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team protected home court on Saturday defeating Anna Maria by a 59-56.

Rapid Recap:
  •  Sophomore Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) finished a layup by junior Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) off the tip. A three by sophomore Makenna Grillone (Walpole, N.H.) kick started a 10-0 run capped off by another three by graduate student Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.) as the Chargers led 12-4. The AMCATS countered with five three-pointers to take a 19-17 lead into the second quarter. 
  • The AMCATS lead was cut to a single basket after layups junior Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) and Mitchell. The visitors countered with a 7-1 run stopped by a junior Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) to end the half at 29-25 in favor of Anna Maria. 
  • The AMCATS jumped the lead to 34-26 to start the third quarter stopped by a Mitchell layup. Anna Maria battled back pushing the lead to 42-29, stopped by a three by first year Emma Felker (Dracut, Mass.), who also started a 8-0 run capped off by another three by Holt as the Chargers cut the deficit to 44-37 with 10 minutes to play.
  • The Chargers kicked off the fourth quarter on a 8-3 run capped off by a finish by Felker to cut the AMCAT lead to 47-45. Anna Maria countered with a 7-0 run to push the lead nine with 5:09. First year Catherine Chick (Glen, N.H.) went off to get the Chargers back into the game with nine points during a 13-0 run that put the home team in the lead by a 58-54 margin. The AMCATS got the game to within two points, but Brewster nailed a free throw as the Chargers closed on the defensive end. 
Post Game Press:
"We knew we needed to win this game and I am glad we did", said first year Catherine Chick (Glen, N.H.). "At halftime we knew we needed to press on the gas and we did to pickup the win."

Inside the Numbers:
  • The forwards led the offense for Colby-Sawyer as Mitchell posted a double-double with 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-4 FT), a career-high 14 rebounds and three steals. Brewster tallied 12 points (3-8 FG, 6-7 FT), nine boards, three blocks and a pair of steals. Chick added 11 points (4-7 FG, 1-2 3PT, 2-2 FT) seven rebounds and a steal. 
  • Gina Parmenter paced the AMCATS with 21 points (6-14 FG, 6-12 3PT, 3-5 FT), six steals, four rebounds and three blocks. Marinique Reddin added 13 points (5-18 FG, 0-2 3PT, 3-8 FT), 11 rebounds and two assists. 
  • The Chargers dominated the fast break with a 18-3 margin to lead to the win.
