CHARGERS UNABLE TO HOLD OFF RAMS' LATE RALLY IN 82-70 LOSS

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell to the Rams of Framingham State Saturday afternoon 82-70.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Rams would score first on Saturday afternoon and took a quick 5-0 run over the Chargers, but senior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) would add a made free throw and sophomore Sean Peterson (Chester, N.H.) made a layup to cut the lead. The teams would continue to trade buckets back and forth as Martin would knock down both free throws to spark an 8-1 as the Chargers took a 19-13 lead with 12:56 left in the opening half. The teams would continue to trade buckets with graduate student Mike Joanou (Burbank, Calif.) hitting a three-pointer and Peterson making a jump shot. The team would continue to battle as the Rams tied the score at 30-30 with 2:12 left in the half, but Martin would respond with a fast-break layup and graduate student Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) nailing a three-pointer giving the home team the 35-31 lead as the first half came to a close. 
  • The Rams would open the second half nailing a three-pointer and went on an 11-4 run with first-year Elijah Thomas (Fairfax, Virginia) and Martin adding layups of their own as the Chargers trailed the Rams 42-41 with 15:13 minutes left in the second half. The teams would trade buckets with senior Nick Grant (Houston, Texas) making a layup to give the Chargers the 51-50 lead with 10:00 minutes left to go. The Rams would go on a 17-4 as Martin nailed a three-pointer to cut the Rams lead to nine with under four minutes left to go. The Rams would continue to extend their lead with back-to-back made free throws with first-year Brady Rogers (Newfields, N.H.) hitting a lay-up and three-pointer, but it wasn't enough as the Rams would take the 82-70 win over the Chargers. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Martin led the way for the Chargers with 30 points (10-20 FG, 1-5 3 PT, 9-11 FT), eight rebounds, and three steals while Jenkins added 11 points (4-10 FG, 3-6 3 PT), four rebounds, and one assist. Peterson recorded eight points (4-8 FG), four rebounds, and two steals while Rogers added five points (2-2 FG, 1-1 3 PT). 
  • Kyle Philistin tallied 21 points (6-17 FG, 5-10 3 PT, 4-6 FT), four rebounds, and four assists for the Rams while Josh Saint Jean added 16 points (7-10 FG, 2-4 FT), 12 rebounds, and one assist. 
  • The Chargers took advantage of an 18-11 fast-break points margin over the Rams while also having 32-28 points in the paint margin.
