CASTLETON, VT. - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell on the road to Vermont State Castleton Tuesday night, 83-69.
Rapid Recap:
- Senior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) would score first in the opening half for the Chargers and sparked a 6-2 run. The Spartans would respond with a layup and back-to-back free throws to tie the game at 6-6 with 16:26 left in the first half. The Chargers would continue to extend their lead with graduate students Mike Joanou (Burbank, Calif.) and Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) each nailing a three-pointer. The teams would continue to battle as the Spartans went on a 15-3 run, but senior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) made back-to-back layups to halt the Spartans run. First-year Elijah Thomas (Fairfax, Virginia) would spark a quick 5-0 run for the Chargers, making the layup, but the Spartans would respond with a three-pointer of their own to keep a four-point lead over the Chargers. First-year Brady Rogers (Newfields, N.H.) hit a three-pointer to get the visitors within one point, but the Spartans would go on an 11-3 and continue to take control of the first half as they led the Chargers 50-42.
- The Spartans would score first to start the second half, but Cullum made back-to-back buckets for the Chargers that would give the visitors a quick 6-0 run with 17:49 left to play. Martin would make back-to-back layups for the Chargers to cut the Spartans lead, as the visitors trailed 59-57 with 14:00 minutes to play. The Spartans would take advantage of Charger turnovers and went on a 14-4 run, but Thomas hit a free throw to keep the game within 11 points with 5:48 left in the half. The teams would continue to make their respective free throws, but the Chargers were unable to cut the Spartans lead to single digits as the Spartans would come away with the 83-69 victory.

- Martin recorded 25 points (9-13 FG, 1-1 3 PT, 6-10 FT), eight rebounds, and two steals while Cullum added 13 points (6-12 FG, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, and one steal. Jenkins chipped in 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-6 3 PT), four rebounds, and two assists with Joanou adding seven points (2-7 FG, 2-6 3 PT, 1-3 FT), two rebounds, and three steals.
- Ben Seiler led the way for the Spartans with 20 points (6-9 FG, 4-5 3 PT, 4-6 FT) two rebounds, and three assists while Will Radcliff tallied 18 points (6-17 FG, 6-6 FT), nine rebounds, and five assists.
- The Chargers would have a slight 12-4 fastbreak points margin over the Spartans, but the Spartans would outrebound the Chargers by a 51-32 margin.
