CHARGERS DROP GAME AGAINST HAWKS, 77-71

WEST HARTFORD, CONN. - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team dropped their match-up against the Hawks, Tuesday night by a score of 77-71.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers would see themselves in a hole quick against the Hawks as they came out firing opening the game on a 7-0 run. The Chargers would not let up however, as every time they fell into a hole, they would storm back. Their defense and early plays by Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) and Matthew Einarson (Danville, N.H.) helped keep the game close throughout the early side of the first half.
  • It was Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) who made his mark on the game late in the first half with back to back fast break layups and then a three pointer with 4:36 to go in the first half to put the Chargers down by three. He would go on to make a couple free throw, and then Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) would take his turn to take over knocking down a couple of shots himself to send the game into a 35-31 halftime score.
  • The Chargers would go on to pick up the second half right where they left off with a couple early layups by Cullum, and Martin while A.J. Mutiganzi (Burlington, Ontario) started to make waves and hit some shots himself. A layup by Mutiganzi with 15:16 left in the game would see the score tied at 42. Cullum would get a steal and take it to the basketball on the fast break to give the team their first lead of the game with 14:00 minutes to go.
  • The next couple minutes would be crucial as the Hawks would go on a 7-0 run, and then would open it to a 10 point deficit for the Chargers after some back and forth scoring. The Chargers would try to fight back but every basket, came with a response by the Hawks. Jenkins would find his groove again hitting back to back threes with under a minute to go to put the Chargers down 4, but it wouldn't be enough as the Hawks in their free throws to ice the game.
