Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

CHARGERS SECOND HALF GOAL STUNS RAIDERS

NEW LONDON, NH - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team took on the Rivier University Raiders Wednesday afternoon in a battle of GNAC schools where the Chargers come away with the victory 1-0.

Rapid Recap:
  • In a battle of rival GNAC schools, this game had everything you would think from a competitive standpoint. It had even possession, physical game play, and a lot of shots to make this a classic October GNAC match up.
  • The Chargers were held to zero shots in the first half, as the Raiders made it difficult to get through their line. While on the other end, the Chargers were doing everything they could to stop the Raiders counters. Possession went back and forth in the mid-field for a while as the Chargers did not want to give the Raiders a chance of capturing an early lead.
  • The Chargers were able to string together a couple of shots to put some pressure on the Raiders. The pressure got the Chargers a corner kick just 10 minutes into the second half. Ryan Wilson (Mattapoisett, Mass.) took the corner and sent a beautiful ball into the middle of the box that found the head of Judson DiMaria (Acton, Mass.) who found the head of Nick Carrabino (Fair Haven, Vt.) that slipped past the keeper for a 1-0 Charger lead!
  • As the Raiders were looking for the equalizer, the game got very chippy quick. The Chargers held their owm, as both the defense and goalkeeper Evan Whalen (Barrington, N.H.) let nothing past them for a Chargers win.
Inside the Numbers:
  • This is the second game with a goal for Carrabino, both coming off steady GNAC competition while DiMaria and Wilson have totaled their 3rd and 4th respectively assists on the season.
  • Goal kepeer Evan Whalen picks up his third win on the season in net where he stands at a 3-1 record for the Chargers.
Up Next:
The Chargers will hit the road again to take on Mitchell in New London, but in Conneticut as they continue a stretch of GNAC opponents.
