NEW LONDON, NH - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team hosted New England College Tuesday afternoon in a conference match-up poised to add a lot of growing excitement as we get closer to the playoffs. In a tight game, the Chargers came out on top with a very late first half goal to take home the 1-0 win for their third straight.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers tallied their third straight win by 1 goal against a GNAC opponent. This was also the third straight game that the Chargers held majority of the possession throughout the whole game.
- The Chargers put the pressure on the Pilgrims defense early as they were finding each other, switching the field, and looking up top for opportunities to score. The first half was slow, however with both teams just recording 4 total shots as both defensive lines protected their net.
- With a minute a half to go in the first half, First Year Colin Riley-Perec (Plymouth, Mass.) found Brandon Mejia (West Palm Beach, Fla.) for his first goal of the season off a beautiful shot in the upper left corner from inside the box.Â
- The second half, full of excitement was held at a 1-0 game while starting goal keeper Yener Bartolon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) made two fantastic saves to keep the Pilgrims from scoring. The first shot bounced off his hands and the follow up was saved by a diving one handed save by Bartolon.
Inside the Numbers:
- Bartolon faced 9 shots and made 6 saves to keep the Pilgrims out of net.
- The Chargers out shot their opponents for the third straight game recording 10 shots.
- Riley-Perec recorded his second assist on the year that has led to a game winning game.
