Huge Fourth Quarter Lifts Saint Joseph's (Maine) Over Chargers

STANDISH, Maine  – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball fell to 0-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday falling to Saint Joseph's (Maine) by a 73-52 final. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers started off behind early as the Monks scored the first five points in the game. Junior Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) netted two early threes to keep Colby-Sawyer within 8-6 in the early portion of the first. Junior Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) tallied the next four points to give the visitors the lead, but a pair of free throws by the home team kept the game tied with under two minutes to play. A shot at the charity stripe by sophomore Makenna Grillone (Walpole, N.H.) and a triple by junior Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) lifted the Chargers into a 14-12 lead headed into the second. 
  • The Monks started the second quarter fast using a 7-0 run to lead by five points, but five-point spurt by Brewster evened the score once again. Junior Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) poured in a shot from deep and a floater to give Colby-Sawyer the lead again and after both teams traded buckets the Monks led by a 27-26 score into halftime.
  • The Monks again put early pressure on the Chargers using a 9-2 run to extend the lead to eight points, but first year Catherine Chick (Glen, N.H.) scored five-points and sophomore Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) added a shot from behind the arc of her own to tie the game back at 36-36. The teams continued to trade points and after a third three of the game by Holt the game was once again knotted at 43-43. Saint Joseph's (Maine) battled back with a 7-1 run to lead by six headed into the fourth quarter. 
  • Another 11-0 run pushed the Monks to a 17-point lead which was stopped by a finish for Holt. The Monks continued to dominate the fourth with a second 11-0 run of the quarter stopped by a three by Lucertini. Lucertini added one more three as the Chargers fell by a 73-52 final.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Lucertini tallied 11 points (4-8 FG, 3-5 3PT, 0-2 FT), with two assists. Brewster notched 11 points (4-9 FG, 3-3 FT) and six boards, while Holt registered 11 points 4-8 FG, 3-5 3PT), four rebounds and a pair of assists. Chick added eight points (2-6 FG, 1-2 3PT, 3-4 FT) and three rebounds. 
  • Grace Ramsdell led the Monks with 16 points (7-11 FG, 1-2 3PT, 1-4 FT), seven rebounds and a pair of assists. Nina Howe added 15 points (5-8 FG, 2-3 3PT, 3-4 FT) with four assists and three boards.
  • Saint Joseph's (Maine) owned the paint with a 38-16 margin in the painted area along with a 13-2 second chance points advantage.
