Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Holt's Huge Second Half Pushes Chargers Past Norwich 58-52

NORTHFIELD, Vt.  – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball picked up a huge Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory on Wednesday storming all the way back from down 19 points to win by a 58-52 final. Junior Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) led the way with 19 second half points as the Chargers picked up the win.

Rapid Recap:
  •  The Cadets took an early 8-2 lead stopped by a basket by graduate student Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.) and a pair of free throws by both junior Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) and junior Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.). After a bucket by the Cadets, Molettieri drilled a three-pointer to give the visitors a lead. After the Cadets jumped ahead 14-11, Raynowska matched the score at the buzzer knocking down a three from the corner.
  • Norwich picked up a three to get a lead, but a pair of shots at the charity stripe by Holt and a jumper by sophomore Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) kept Colby-Sawyer in front 18-17. The Cadets fought back with a 10-2 run stopped by a jumper by junior Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.). Another 7-0 run closed the half for the Cadets to take a 34-22 lead into the break.
  • The Cadets used a 10-3 run to jump the lead to a game-high 19 points with 5:18 to play in the third quarter. The Chargers took off from that point ending the third quarter on an 11-2 run led by five points by Holt and first year Emma Felker (Dracut, Mass.) to cut the deficit to 10 points with 10 minutes to play.
  • After a bucket by the Cadets to kick off the fourth quarter, the Chargers continued to click as Holt scored five-straight points, followed by a three by Mitchell and a bucket by first year Catherine Chick (Glen, N.H.) to cut the Cadet lead to just a single bucket. Norwich added another bucket, but Felker answered with a step-back three before a fast break bucket by Holt gave Colby-Sawyer the lead with 3:41 to play. After the teams traded empty possessions, sophomore Makenna Grillone (Walpole, N.H.) buried a trifecta to extend the lead to four. The lead got cut back to two points, but Holt knocked down the final two buckets to clinch a Charger win.
Post Game Press:
"We knew it was going to be a battle for a full 40 minutes", said junior Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine). "We were trailing them all night long so when we were down at halftime coach told us to put our foot down and play our way. We got quick transition buckets, hit big shots when we needed it and did not left off the gas. We played for each other and pulled off a well deserved dub."
