WORCESTER, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team dropped their season opener against Clark University on Friday by a 5-0 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Cougars struck first in 12th minute, William Lopez scored their first goal on assists by Lucas Saia and Evan Thompson. 10 minutes later Clark University scored again as Lopez bested sophomore Yener Bartolon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) from Saia to get the 2-0 lead. The Chargers held the Cougars to two goals going into the half without registering a shot.
- In the second half the teams battled with Colby-Sawyer getting their best chanes of the day in the 52nd and 54th minute getting shots by first year David Herrera ( Kissimmee, Fla.) and first year Judson DiMaria (Acton, Mass.), but both missed the target. After the 70th minute mark the Cougars found the back of net scoring three times within ten minutes to seal the opening day win for them.
Inside the Numbers:
- DiMaria, junior Ryan Wilson (Mattapoisett, Mass.), and Herrera recorded the three lone shots in the match for the Chargers.
- Bartolon played the whole 90 minutes for the team today, allowing five goals while recording two saves.
- The Cougars out shot the Chargers 16-3 and recorded a 16-7 shot on goal ratio.
