Chargers Battle Hard in Loss to Wentworth Institute of Technology

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team fell short on Saturday afternoon dropping a contest to Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 1-0 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The first chance came in the 5th minute as Alex Burnham hit a shot saved by sophomore Yener Bartolon (West Palm Beach, Fla.). First year David Herrera (Kissimmee, Fla.) tried to get the Chargers on the board in the 12th minute launching a shot, but it was stopped by Noah Lawless. The best chance for the Chargers came in the 26th minute as junior Ryan Wilson (Mattapoisett, Mass.) hit the crossbar on a shot outside of the 18 yard box. Bartolon made one more key save for the Chargers in the 33rd minute to keep the game even going into the break.
  • In the second half Bartolon kept making plays with another key highlight save against Chris Jimenez in the 50th minute. After a yellow card by first year Judson DiMaria (Acton, Mass.), the Leopards were shown a yellow of their own in the 61st minute as both teams stayed aggressive at a 0-0 tie. In the 79th minute Wentworth took the lead as Jimenez scored on a pass from Kyle Hallahan. Herrera had the last shot by CSC but it was high as the Leopards held on.
Post Game Press:
"We got unlucky today", said head coach Zack Grady. "We had a ton of chances today. That was a great example of a soccer game. It was back and forth. Yener came up big twice for us and at the end of the day it was a tough goal that beat us."

Inside the Numbers:
  • Bartolon stopped six shots in the net for Colby-Sawyer in all 90 minutes.
  • Wilson and Herrera played well each registering key chances for the Chargers, while sophomore Josh Warner (Barrington, N.H.), first year Kaleb Call (South Jordan, Utah) and first year Rome Michel (Winter Haven, Fla.) all put in quality work defensively.
  • Wentworth out shot Colby-Sawyer by a 11-9 margin with a 7-5 on target differential.
Up Next:
The Chargers will next take on Regis College in the first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match of the year.
