NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team were bested by Johnson & Wales University at Kelsey Baseball Field on Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) double-header.
Game 1 (L, 8-2):
- The Wildcats jumped ahead by a pair of runs on a double and a wild pitch in the top half of the first inning. The Chargers battled back scoring a run in the bottom half of the inning as first year Cam Carignan (Rutland, Mass.) singled and stole second before scoring on a senior Ben Brennan (Marblehead, Mass.) fielder's choice. Colby-Sawyer had runners on the corners, but junior Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) flied out to left field to end the first.
- After a clean second inning Johnson and Wales doubled there score with two more runs in the top of the third on an RBI single and a RBI bases loaded walk. The Wildcats added another insurance run in the top half of the fifth inning on a RBI single up the middle. Colby-Sawyer picked up another run in the bottom half of the fifth as senior Jake Choiniere (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) had an RBI groundout scoring Carignan who once again was on via a single. The Wildcats added two more runs in the top half of the sixth inning and one more in the seventh to hold on to the win.
- First year Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) picked up the loss tossing four innings allowing four runs (two earned) with four strikeouts and three walks. First year Marshall Donahue (Montpelier, Vt.) was next throwing two innings allowing two earned runs with one punch out. First year Ethan Clark (Bow, N.H.) closed out the pitching with an inning of work allowing one run on four hits with a strikeout.
- Carignan led the offense with a 2-for-4 day with two runs scored. Choiniere added the lone RBI in a 1-for-3 effort.
Game 2 (L, 16-2):
- The Wildcats took a 5-0 lead in the first inning before jumping the lead to 8-0 after three innings played. After five innings the lead hit 12-0. In the bottom of the fifth the Chargers got on the board as Carignan singled through the left side before stealing second. First year Janai Cruz (Manchester, N.H.) pushed the runner to third on an error, before stealing second and scoring Carignan on the throw to second.
- The Wildcats punished the Chargers again scoring four more runs in the sixth inning to hold a 16-1 lead. Colby-Sawyer added the final run of the day as Choiniere doubled in first year Devin Montalvo (Coram, N.Y.) who got on first on a walk.
- Sophomore Kam Lovelette (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) picked up the loss tossing three innings allowing eight runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Sophomore Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) was next hurling an inning allowing three runs with two punch outs. First year Will Carpenter (Medfield, Mass.) was next throwing an inning allowing a run with a whiff. Sophomore Matt Bennett (Kingston, Mass.) was out of bullpen next with two-thirds on an inning allowing two earned runs. Sophomore Erik Rohs (Lovettsville, Va.) closed the game out with four outs, allowing no runs and adding a strikeout.
- Montalvo led the offense with a 1-for-2 day with a run scored. Choiniere added a 1-for-3 performance with a double and a RBI.

The Chargers will play against Rivier University on Monday with a 1:00 PM start time at NHTI - Concord's Community College.
