NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team suffered a non-conference loss on Thursday dropping a contest to Plymouth State University by a 19-11 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as senior Jake Choiniere (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring first year Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.). In the second inning the Panthers responded with a single up the middle to knot the game at 1-1. Colby-Sawyer picked up the lead right back as first year Finn MacLennan (Ipswich, Mass.) hit a triple into the gap and then scored on a passed ball. In the top half of third Plymouth State took the lead for the first time getting three runs on four hits with one error. In the fifth inning the lead grew further for the Panthers scoring six more runs on seven hits. In the sixth inning the lead grew to 10 runs as the Panthers had two more cross the plate to take a 12-2 lead into the later innings.
- In the bottom of the sixth inning the Chargers battled back with six runs on five hits. The inning started with senior Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) singling up the middle before first year Cam Carignan (Rutland, Mass.) doubled down the line to get two runners in scoring position. After junior Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) drew a walk the Chargers got the first run of the inning on a wild pitch. First year Matthew McDuff (East Providence, R.I.) picked up the next RBI, singling to right field to score Carignan. First year Jared Schmitt (Surry, N.H.) grounded out into a fielder's choice to get the fifth run for the Chargers. First year Devin Montalvo (Coram, N.Y.) added to the offense singling to left field scoring a pair of runners. Montalvo would later score on a wild pitch to end the scoring in the inning.
- The Panthers grew the lead back to nine runs in the seventh inning getting five more runs on five hits. The Chargers added another run in the bottom half of the seventh with a RBI single by McDuff. In the top of the eighth the Chargers allowed one more run on two hits. Colby-Sawyer picked up two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Carignan and a sacrifice fly by Rogers. The Panthers closed the game with one final run in the nineth inning.
Stats & Figures:
- Sophmore Kam Lovelette (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) started the game allowing three earned runs with one strikeout in three innings of work. Sophomore Connor Donahue (Uxbridge, Mass.) picked up the loss getting four outs and allowing four earned runs. Sophomore Josh Finkle (Littleton, N.H.) was next getting five outs allowing three runs (two earned) with a strikeout. First year Noah Wolgamott (Manchester, N.H.) was next allowing five runs in a single inning of work with two strikeouts. Sophomore Kenneth Spratt (Wantagh, N.Y.) pitched the eighth inning allowing one run, while sophomore Matt Bennett (Kingston, Mass.) closed things out allowing a run in one inning.
- Carignan led the offense going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs score and an RBI. Watson tallied a 3-for-5 day with a run scored and a double.

The Chargers will travel to Newton, Mass. to face off with Lasell University for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader with the first pitch of game one at 12:00 PM.
