Chargers Doubled Up by Emerson College

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team suffered their 10th loss of the season on Thursday, losing to Emerson College by a 8-4 final.
 
Rapid Recap:
  • The Lions jumped ahead by a 3-0 margin in the first two innings. Senior Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) cut into the deficit in the top of the third blasting his fifth homer of the season. Emerson responded in the bottom of the frame getting two more runs on a home run and a sacrifice fly to take a 5-1 lead.
  • In the bottom of the fourth Colby-Sawyer got another run across the plate as first year Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly to score first year Nick Johnson (Manchester, N.J.). In the bottom of the fourth the Lions added another on an error to keep the lead at 6-2. 
  • In the top of the sixth Colby-Sawyer added another as first year Jared Schmitt (Surry, N.H.) singled and then stole second base to set up a first year Cam Carignan (Rutland, Mass.) RBI double. The Lions added a pair of runs in the eighth inning holding a 8-3 lead heading into the ninth. The Chargers added one final run in the final inning as O'Brien hit a sacrifice fly to score Watson. 
Stats & Figures:
  • First year Marshall Donahue (Montpelier, Vt.) picked up the loss tossing three innings allowing five runs (four earned) to go along with a pair of strikeouts. First year Ethan Clark (Bow, N.H.) was next tossing two innings giving up just one run on two hits. Sophomore Erik Rohs (Lovettsville, Va.) pitched next going two hitless innings for the Chargers. First year Will Carpenter (Medfield, Mass.) closed out the game with an inning of work allowing two runs to go with one strikeout.
  • Schmitt led the offense going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base. O'Brien went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Carignan added a 1-for-3 day with a double, RBI and walk. 
Up Next:
The Chargers will travel to Chicopee, Mass. to take on Elms College for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM.
