DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team picked up a win during their doubleheader against the University of Maine – Farmington on Thursday evening at the Northeast Regional Park Sports Complex.
Game 1 L(16-7):
- After no runs were scored in the opening two innings of game one, the Chargers bats came alive in the bottom of the third. First year Cam Carignan (Rutland, Mass.) doubled to left center scoring first year Matthew McDuff (East Providence, R.I.) to put Colby-Sawyer up 1-0. Next up to bat was first year Devin Montalvo (Coram, N.Y.) who hit a single through the left side to add another run. Senior Max Lewis (Durham, N.H.) would then fly out to right field bringing in Carignan to make it 3-0.
- In the top of the fourth, the Beavers responded by scoring two runs off three hits making it 3-2. First year Dylan Watson (Byfield, Mass.) stepped up to the plate and laced a ball down the right field line for a double. After Carignan reached first on an error, Montalvo tripled to left center bringing home Watson and Carignan making it a 5-2 game.
- The Beavers tied the game in the top of the fifth inning after Nate Coombs tripled down the left field line to clear the bases. A couple batters later, Will Cauchon doubled down the right field line scoring another two runs to put the Beavers ahead 7-5. The Chargers were able to tie the game again at 7-7 in the bottom of the fifth thanks to an RBI double from senior Cooper O'Brein (Vergennes, Vt.) followed by a successful bunt from senior Ben Brennan (Marblehead, Mass.) to score O'Brein home.
- The Beavers added a couple of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off one hit to take back a 9-7 advantage. Farmington continued to extend their lead in the top of the seventh inning adding seven more runs off six hits. The Chargers would take the loss for game one by a 16-7 final.
- Sophomore Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) picked up the loss pitching four innings allowing seven runs with three punchouts. Sophomore Erik Rohs (Lovettsville, Va.) pitched two innings for the Chargers allowing eight runs (seven earned) off six hits with one strikeout. Closing the game was sophomore Connor Donahue (Uxbridge, Mass.) allowing one hit and one run.
- Montalvo led the Charger offense going 2-for-4 including a triple and earning three RBIs. Carignan added a 1-for-4 performance which included a double and one RBI while Lewis went 1-for-4 with a RBI.
Game 2 W(3-0):
- In game two, the bats were quiet for both teams as no runs were scored through four innings. That changed in the top of the fifth inning when Watson hit a single down the right field line to score first year Janai Cruz (Manchester, N.H.) home and give Colby-Sawyer and 1-0 lead.
- After another couple scoreless innings, senior Ian Turpel (Cohasset, Mass.) satretd the top of the seventh off with a double to left center. A sacrifice bunt from Cruz advanced Turpel to third base who would eventually score after first year Jared Schmitt (Surry, N.H.) laid a bunt down reaching first on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0. After Watson singled through the left side to put Schmitt in scoring position, Montalvo would single to center field bringing Schmitt home making it a 3-0. The Chargers would hold off the Beavers offense in the bottom of the seventh and earn the victory by a 3-0 final.
- Junior Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) earned the win for the Chargers after pitching the entire seven innings. He ended the game by allowing only two hits along with two punchouts.
- Watson went 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. Montalvo also added a 2-for-4 performance with one RBI while Turpel went 2-for-3 including a double and one run.

Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.). "Offense came through clutch towards the end of the game executing bunts and running well. At the end of the day it was a team effort and everyone contributed one through nine."
