NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season finale on Saturday to Johnson & Wales University by a 83-75 final. Before the game the Chargers honored seniors
Scott Lampron (Concord, N.H.),
Zack Caraballo (Salem, N.H.),
Terrence Harvey Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.),
Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas) and
Conor Kelly (Charlestown, Mass.).
Playoff Bound:
The Chargers finished off the season in the #3 seed in the GNAC North Division to earn a spot in the GNAC Playoffs starting on Tuesday February 21st.
Rapid Recap:
- The Wildcats jumped ahead early by a 4-0 margin halted by a finish by Harvey Jr. to cut the lead in half. The visitors continued to succeed with a 7-0 run to hold the early nine point advantage. Lampron answered with a jumper to start a 9-2 counter to cut the lead to a single bucket. A three-pointer by Lampron cut the lead to just a single point, but the Wildcats powered through again to jump the lead to 26-17 with 9:54 left in the first half. Caraballo knocked home a triple to cut the lead to six, but JWU answered keeping the game at double-digits. A deep three by sophomore Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.) cut the lead to seven, but once again the Wildcats were strong punching back to take a 47-33 lead into the break.
- Lampron started the second half with another finish in the lane, followed by a three by Boone to cut the lead to just nine, but the Wildcats kept the lead at 11 with another basket. After another Lampron bucket the lead ballooned to 17 points after a 9-2 run by JWU. The lead would continued to be held by the Wildcats late into the fourth quarter, but the Chargers still had a run in them using a 9-1 run to cut the lead to 70-61 with 4:11 left in the ballgame. Lampron and Caraballo each added buckets to cut the lead to seven, but the clock was not on the Chargers side falling by a 83-75 final.
Stats & Figures:
- Lampron ended his final home game strong pouring in 31 points (11-20 FG, 1-7 3-FG, 8-8 FT) while adding four steals and three rebounds. Caraballo registered 13 points (5-10 FG, 1-4 3-FG, 2-2 FT), six rebounds and three assists. Harvey Jr. netted nine points (3-14 FG, 0-3 3-FG, 3-4 FT), three steals and a block, while Cummings added nine points (3-8 FG, 3-8 3-FG).
- Josh Zangerle paced the Wildcats with 24 points (9-16 FG, 3-7 3-FG, 3-4 FT), six rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Up Next:
The Chargers will travel to New Haven, Conn. in the first round of the GNAC Playoffs where they will face off with Albertus Magnus College with a 7:30 PM start.
