Chargers Fall in GNAC Playoffs to Albertus Magnus College

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team concluded its season on Tuesday night dropping a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoff matchup to Albertus Magnus College by a 128-74 final.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Falcons jumped ahead 5-0 before a sophomore Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.} triple cut the lead to just a single basket. Albertus Magnus continued to fly going on a 9-0 run to lead by twelve, but Cummings netted another from deep to stop the advantage. Senior Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas) added three more shots from the charity stripe to cut the lead to 15-9. Senior Scott Lampron (Concord, N.H.) kept the lead at six momentarily knocking down a response three, but the Falcons responded with a 9-2 spurt. Cummings stopped the Falcons with his third triple in the first half, but the home team answered with another 11-0 advantage to take a 21 point lead. Back-to-back buckets by Boone and senior Conor Kelly (Charlestown, Mass.) tried to start a comeback, but after that it was all Falcons taking a 69-33 lead into the break.
  • The Falcons continued to soar scoring eight of the first nine points in the second half stopped by a jumper by Lampron. The Falcons continued its success in the second half growing the lead to 56 with 7:37 remaining in the contest, but the Chargers continued to battle with four-straight points by senior Zack Caraballo (Salem, N.H.) and a jumper by sophomore Owen Morse (Shelburne Falls, Mass.). Junior Juan Nieves (Manhattan, N.Y.) got on the board late with a paint finish, while first year Daniel Jordan (Coral Springs, Fla.) netted the last eight points for the Chargers in the loss. 
Stats & Figures:
  • Cummings led the Chargers offense with 21 points (7-14 FG, 4-9 3-FG, 3-4 FT) to go with three rebounds and a steal. Jordan was the only other Charger in double-figures with 13 points (4-7 FG, 3-6 3-FG, 2-4 FT). Boone tallied nine points (3-13 FG, 0-2 3-FG, 3-3 FT), six rebounds and a pair of blocks, while Lampron added eight points (3-9 FG, 2-7 3-FG, 0-1 FT) and six assists. 
  • Justice Washington paced the Falcons with 21 points (10-12 FG, 1-3 FT), 12 rebounds and three steals. 
  • Albertus Magnus owned the offensive glass with 24 offensive rebounds compared to just 12 for Colby-Sawyer. The Falcons also was scorching from deep shooting 48.6% (17-35) compared to the Chargers who shot 34.3% (12-35) from behind the arc.

"Even though there was a few bumps in the road along the way I had fun playing the sport I love", said senior Conor Kelly (Charlestown, Mass.). "I learned a lot over my college experience and made life long friends. I'm lucky that I got to play in college with them."
