Boone Surpasses 1,000 Points in 78-69 Victory Over Norwich University

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team defeated Norwich University on Tuesday night during their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest by a final score of 78-69. Senior Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas) highlighted in the Chargers victory after surpassing 1,000-points to become the 22nd Colby-Sawyer men's basketball player to achieve the milestone.

Rapid Recap: 
  • After Donovan Lewis made a layup to kickstart the scoring in the first half for the Cadets, senior Scott Lampron (Concord, N.H.) tied the game at 2-2 with a good jumper. Boone scored his first bucket of the night at the 16:52 mark and shortly after knocked down a triple to give the Chargers a 7-6 advantage. Following a layup by Joe Joe Dubrul, Colby-Sawyer would go on a 9-0 run featuring back-to-back three pointers from sophomore Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Boone to put the Chargers up 16-8. Lampron continued to extend Colby-Sawyer's led after dropping eight consecutive points bringing the score to 28-14. Senior Terrence Harvey Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.) made his first bucket of the game to make it 30-16 with 5:37 remaining in the half. Boone tallied his 13th point after finishing a jump shot with Harvey Jr. recording the assist. First year Daniel Jordan (Coral Springs, Fla.) fed the ball to Cummings who drained his second three pointer to make it 35-21. Lampron scored the final five points for the Chargers to give them a 40-24 advantage heading into halftime.
  • In the second half, Boone stole the ball from Nabiyu Ndiaye and finished a jump shot to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Back-and-forth action continued as Harvey Jr. and Boone kept the Chargers double digit led intact with a couple layups and good jump shot. Jalen Olivero hit a three-ball for Norwich followed by a bucket from Tom Dooling to make it 37-48. Boone continued his stellar performance dropping another five points to give Colby-Sawyer a 14-point advantage. The Cadets built a 6-0 run midway through the half reducing the Chargers led to 10-points. Lampron responded by knocking down a jumper putting the score at 59-47. After a good three pointer from Dooling, Lampron and Cummings carried the offensive scoring the next 11-points for Colby-Sawyer to make it 70-57. Norwich responded by going on an 12-2 run towards the end of the half cutting Colby-Sawyer's led to three points. The Chargers were able to finish clutch free throws from senior Conor Kelly (Charlestown, Mass.), Harvey Jr., and Cummings to earn them the victory by a 78-69 final score.
Player Spotlight:
"We needed that win as we move on to the next game on Senior Day," said senior Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas). "Especially going into playoffs, we lost a big game against Anna Maria, so it was great coming in to this game and doing what we needed to do. We are looking forward going into playoffs, hopefully winning our next game, and take care of business." When asked about surpassing 1,000 points Boone said, "It feels good, I don't even know what to say, I'm speechless."

  • Boone ended his milestone night with 24 points (11-23 FG, 2-6 3-FG) to go along with eight rebounds, six assists, a block and a steal. Lampron also dropped 24 points (10-19 FG, 4-7 3-FG, 0-1 FT) for the Chargers as well as four rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Cummings ended the night with 20 points (7-14 FG, 3-9 3-FG, 3-4 FT), eight rebounds and a steal.
  • Kohlby Murray scored 17 points (7-15 FG, 3-7 3-FG) for the Cadets to go along with five rebounds, two assists, and a block.
  • The Chargers outshot the Cadets 44.3% to 40.3% from the field and scored 24 points off turnovers.
