Chargers Fall to Anna Maria College

PAXTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell during their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest against Anna Maria College on Saturday by a final score of 72-48. The Chargers drop their conference record to 6-9 with the loss to the AMCATS.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The AMCATS took an early 9-0 advantage to begin the first half. Sophomore Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.) got the Chargers on the scoreboard after knocking down a three-pointer followed by a jumper from senior Terrence Harvey Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.) to make it 9-5. Christian Armstead finished a tip-in to give Anna Maria a 10-point advantage at the 12:35 mark. Cummings responded by working on both ends of the court, draining a three ball and dunking on a fastbreak after stealing the ball from Kennedy Minix-Rogers. After the AMCATS extended their led to 19-11, Colby-Sawyer completed back-to-back layups from Harvey Jr. and Cummings to reduce Anna Maria's led to four points. Senior Zack Caraballo (Salem, N.H.) hit a triple and a jumper to bring the score to 21-20. With 6:32 left in the half, Cummings tied the game at 23-23 after hitting his third three-pointer. Anna Maria would then go on a 17-3 run to taking a 40-28 led heading into halftime.
  • Senior Conor Kelly (Charlestown, Mass.) finished a bucket to kickstart the scoring in the second half to make it 40-30. After a layup by Gabe Armstead, neither team was able to find the net for almost three minutes until Armstead completed another layup bringing the score to 44-30. Midway through the half, the AMCATS generated a 9-2 run extending their led by over 20-points. Senior Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas) finished a jumper to earn his first points of the game to make it 53-34. Anna Maria continued to build on their attack as the game wind down earning their largest lead of the day after Sean Zabari hit a triple to put the AMCATS ahead 61-34. The Chargers couldn't recover from the deficit and would fall by a final score of 72-48.
Stats & Figures:
  • Cummings led the Chargers in scoring dropping 15 points (6-10 FG, 3-7 3-FG) to go along with five rebounds, an assist, and a pair of steals. Harvey Jr. ended the day with 13 points (4-12 FG, 1-4 3-FG, 4-6 FT), two rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
  • Trevian Grenon scored 19 points (6-10 FG, 5-9 3-FG, 2-3 FT) for the AMCATS along with one rebound, one assist, and three steals.
  • The AMCATS outshot the Chargers 44.6% to 34.5% from the field and outrebounded Colby-Sawyer by a 47-33 margin.
