NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell on Friday night by a 95-36 final score to Yale University.
Rapid Recap:
- The Bulldogs began the first half with a quick 5-0 lead behind an and-one from Bez Mbeng. Junior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) would open the scoring for the visitors with a pull-up jumper and attack off of a pass from junior Owen Morse (Shelbourne Falls, Mass.). The Chargers would fight to stay competitive with junior Bullen Taban (Phoenix, Ariz.) pulling down an offensive board and completing the put back off the glass. The visitors would take a lead over the division one home team but the home team would go on a 14-point run capitalizing off of turnovers and the offensive glass. A free throw from Cullum would bring the score to 42-11 to close the half.
- Morse began the second half knocking down a triple from a pass from junior Mike Joanou (Burbank, Calif.), but the Bulldogs would keep rolling knocking down a pair of triples and capitalizing off of turnovers to extend their lead to 40. Junior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) took an opportunity to break the run with his own three-point try and off of a skip pass from junior Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C.). The home team continued to maintain pressure on the glass and in the backcourt picking up transition points off of steals to extend the lead up to 50. Sophomore Sadiq Abdullahi (Homestead, Fla.) would break the scoring drought knocking down his own three-pointer while Parker notched his third assist. The half would end with a Parker trey as the Bulldogs would go on to win with a 95-36 final.
Inside the Numbers:
- Parker led the Chargers with six points (2-9 FG, 2-5 3PT), three assists, and two steals. Cullum tabbed a team-high eight points (3-8 FG, 1-1 3PT, 1-2 FT) and two boards . Taban added four points (2-2 FG), a pair of rebounds, two assists and a rejection.
- Matt Knowling led the Bulldogs with 15 points (6-7 FG, 3-4 FT), 4 rebounds, and one assist. Casey Simmons added 12 points (5-6 FG, 1-2 3PT, 1-1 FT), 3 rebounds and one steal.
- The Bulldogs shot 51.4% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arch. The Chargers registered 24.6% from the floor and 25% from the three-point line.
