NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team got back to its winning ways on Friday night as graduate student
Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) knocked down the game-winner with 16 seconds left.
Rapid Recap:
- The Beacons jumped ahead by a 5-0 margin as Bobby Joy laced a triple on an assist by Emanuel Zayas. Junior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) got to work for the Chargers getting an and-one to kick start the scoring but Zayas answered with a three of his own. Colby-Sawyer evened the score as junior Jaquan Mosley (Deep Run, N.C.) hit a jumper before Jenkins hit two free throws. Junior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) checked in and made an impact knocking down a shot from deep, but UMass Boston responded taking a 14-13 lead. Junior Nick Grant (Houston, Texas) and junior Bullen Taban (Phoenix, Ariz.) put the Chargers back in front each scoring four points in a 10-2 run to give Colby-Sawyer a 23-16 lead with 8:46 to play. The Beacons battled back once again using a 15-3 run highlighted by six points by Joy to give the visitors the lead. Carson Meczywor hit a triple to jump ahead 36-30, but Martin responded using the glass on his triple, which was quickly followed by another old fashioned three-point play by Cullum to even the score. A fast-break layup by Jenkins and a lay-in by Mosley gave Colby-Sawyer the 40-38 lead headed into the second half.
- The Beacons jumped back in front in the second half opening on a 10-3 run behind five points for Meczywor. The Chargers countered with a 8-3 response to even the game highlighted by five more points for Martin. The teams traded buckets with the Beacons maintaining a 64-61 lead with 5:22 to play. Junior Nate Maldonado (Bronx, N.Y.) kept the Chargers on the gas with a finish off a rebound and another Martin layup put Colby-Sawyer on top with 3:14 to play. Joy answered with a bucket of his own, but Martin kept the Chargers in front with 39 ticks on the clock. After a missed layup by Joy the Beacons jumped in front as Erik Donaldson finished the put-back to put the visitors ahead with 26 seconds to play. Jenkins netted the game-winner off a feed from Martin to push the Chargers over the Beacons at home.

Inside the Numbers:
- Martin was a star for the Chargers tonight with 23 points (9-17 FG, 2-5 3PT, 3-4 FT), eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in 23 minutes. Cullum registered 15 points (5-10 FG, 5-7 FT), seven rebounds and five steals. Jenkins added seven points (2-10 FG, 1-8 3PT, 2-2 FT) and two boards including the game-winner.
- Zayas led the Beacons with 17 points (7-15 FG, 1-1 3PT, 2-2 FT) and five assists, while Meczywor added 15 points (5-9 FG, 4-5 3PT, 1-2 FT) and five rebounds.
- Colby-Sawyer had a great outing from the bench getting a 35-10 advantage over UMass Boston, while also scoring 20 fast break points compared to 12 for the Beacons.
