AMHERST, Mass. - Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell to Amherst College on Tuesday night by a 93-46 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Mammoths jumped ahead with a 8-0 run before junior Jaquan Mosley (Deep Run, N.C.) hit a jumper to get the Chargers on the board. Sophomore Sadiq Abdullahi (Homestead, Fla.) added to the Chargers scoring with a shot from deep bringing the score to 8-5. The Mammoths answered right back with a layup from Mohammed Alausa led to, that kick started another 10-0 run for the Mammoths. Junior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) would make a layup to get the Chargers back on the scoring column again. Abdullahi would knock down his second three to help out the Chargers. Junior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) would help the Chargers with a layup followed by a free throw and another layup with 7:13 left in the first half. That would be followed up with another Charger sophomore Nate Maldonado (Bronx, N.Y.) hitting a jump shot. The Mammoths would go into the half helped by a pair of free throws by Alausa and a three pointer by Chris Hammond to hold a 41-17 lead into the break.
- Mosley opened up the second half by hitting both a jumper and a layup to get the Chargers to within 41-21. Hammond would add to the Mammoths lead with two layups. Cullum would make another jumper to try and get the momentum going for the Chargers. At 12:14 left, junior Nick Grant (Houston, Texas) got a layup to bring the score to 58-25. The Chargers kept trying to fight with junior Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C.) hitting a triple, Maldonado hitting a free throw and a layup, but that was answered by a three-pointer from Hammond. Abdullahi and Martin would both add a jumpers to the scoring. First year Hunter Bates (Wellington, New Zealand) would also get his first collegiate bucket with a three with 1:49 to play. Parker would hit one more layup to finish off the scoring for the Chargers in the loss falling by a 93-46 final.
Inside the Numbers:
- Abdullahi led the offense with 11 points (4-8 FG, 3-6 3PT), one rebound and one steal. Martin registered eight points (3-12 FG, 0-2 3PT, 2-2 FT) two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Mosley added six points (3-9 FG, 0-3 3PT), four rebounds, and one assist.
- Hammond led the Mammoths with 33 points (13-20 FG, 7-12 3PT) six rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Ryker Vance added 16 points (7-11 FG, 0-1 3PT, 2-3 FT) and 11 rebounds.
- Colby-Sawyer had a great showing from the bench with a 36-22 advantage over Amherst.
- Amherst out rebounded the Chargers 47-28 as well as outscoring them in the paint 56-14.
