Chargers' Foul Trouble Leads to Loss Against Suffolk University

BOSTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell on Wednesday night to Suffolk University by a 68-52 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • Junior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) kicked off the offense for the Chargers getting two free throws and a dunk off his steal to take an early 4-2 lead. The teams traded buckets including a three from junior Jaquan Mosley (Deep Run, N.C.) to keep the score at 9-8. The Rams took control in the middle of the first half with a 19-3 run over the course of nine minutes to take a 27-12 lead. Cullum stopped the run with a jumper followed by three shots from the charity stripe by first year Sean Peterson (Chester, N.H.). Another three by Mosley cut the game to nine with 3:39 to play in the first half and four more points by Cullum got the game down to 33-26. Evan Cook netted four free throws to end the half to give the Rams a 37-26 lead into the break.
  • Cullum and Mosley combined for the first nine Charger points after the break to will the lead down to 41-35 over the first four minutes. Suffolk battled back to jump the lead back to 49-37, but junior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) kept Colby-Sawyer in the game scoring 10-consecutive points for the visitors to keep the deficit at 11 with 7:04 to play. Graduate student Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) finished a tough layup down the stretch, but a 8-3 closing run put the Chargers away over the final five minutes.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Cullum led the offense with 16 points (6-13 FG, 0-1 3-FG, 4-5 FT), five rebounds and a steal before fouling out with 3:25 to play. Mosley tallied 13 points (5-10 FG, 3-4 3-FG), five rebounds and three blocks. Martin put up 10 points (3-4 FG, 1-1 3-FG, 3-3 FT), but fouled out in nine minutes of play. Junior Bullen Taban (Phoenix, Ariz.) added a big defensive game with a point (0-1 FG, 1-2 FT), seven boards and a career-best five blocks. 
  • Cook paced the Rams with 22 points (6-13 FG, 0-3 3-FG, 10-11 FT). Danny Yardemian added 13 points (5-13 FG, 0-1 3-FG, 3-6 FT), 10 rebounds and two steals. 
  • Suffolk got a favorable whistle at home drawing 25 fouls with 27 free throw attempts for 17 points, while Colby-Sawyer drew 16 fouls with 18 free throws for 14 points. 
  • The Rams also owned the glass in the win out rebounding the Chargers by a 51-34 margin.
