Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) lifted the Chargers to their first win of the season netting a game-winner with eight ticks on the clock to beat Curry College by a 60-59 final. With the win head caoch
Tim Viola registered his first college win as a head coach.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers jumped ahead by a 8-6 lead behind a three-pointer by Mitchell and another by junior Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.). Another triple by graduate student Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.) kick started a 10-2 closing run in the first quarter to give the Chargers a 21-8 lead headed into the second.
- A three-pointer by junior Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) with 7:09 in the first half extended the lead to 26-12. Curry College and the Chargers traded buckets, but the first collegiate bucket for first year Larissa Daigle (Fort Kent, Maine) and an old fashioned three-point play pushed the lead to its high on 17 points with 3:57 left in the half. The Colonels answered with five-straight points, but a Holt trifecta followed by a layup by Mitchell kept the game at 39-22 into the halftime break.
- The Colonels grabbed the first four points in the second half before back-to-back paint finishes by junior Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) kept the lead at 17. Curry College battled back into the game using a 12-3 counter led by seven points for Lauren Dunn. Colby-Sawyer answered with five-straight to close out the third including another knock down three by Holt.
- The Colonels came into the fourth ready to play scoring seven-straight points to cut the deficit to 51-45. Holt stopped the bleeding with a triple, but another 9-1 run put the Colonels down by just a single point. Brewster finished a tough layup to keep the visitors up by three, but a bucket plus the foul for Kasey Reeves evened the score with 2:21 to play. Junior Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) knocked down a key free throw, but a bucket by Lauren Morse put the home team in front with 40 seconds left. After two missed free throws the Chargers had possession with 19 seconds to go. Brewster found a cutting Mitchell with eight seconds for the game-winner before defending the attempt by Curry for the win.
Post Game Press:
"I thought our focus has been closing quarters better", said head coach
Tim Viola. "I thought throughout this game we did a better job closing quarters. Their press is very intense for four quarters and we found opportunities to break it and get baskets. the close games have paid off and we finally put together a W."

Elyza Mitchell. "We dug in down the stretch and trusted the system. We trusted coach to put together the last posession and sealed a big win."

- Holt led the offense matching a career-high 22 points (7-15 FG, 5-9 3-FG, 3-3 FT) to go with four swipes, four assists and three rebounds. Brewster followed with 12 points (5-13 FG, 2-4 FT) and four boards. Mitchell added nine points (4-10 FG, 1-3 3-FG, 0-2 FT) and eight rebounds.
- Kasey Reeves paced the Colonels with 18 points (6-9 FG, 1-3 3-FG, 5-6 FT), seven rebounds and a steal. Dunn followed with 13 points (4-13 FG, 3-6 3-FG, 2-4 FT), six rebounds and five assists.

The Chargers will play for the first time in New London on Thursday against Keene State College with a 7:00 PM start.
