Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Jenkins' Dagger Helps Chargers Complete Comeback Win Over Emerson College

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team is leaving the Colby College Tournament with two wins after defeating Emerson College by a 65-62 final. Graduate student Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.) netted the dagger three with 1:06 remaining to complete a 13 point second half comeback win for the Chargers.

Rapid Recap:
  • Junior Jaquan Mosley (Deep Run, N.C.) kicked things off with a jumper, but the Lions netted the next seven points to take an early lead. The Chargers battled back to even the score at 11-11 as junior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) capped off a 9-4 run to even the score. The teams continued to go back and forth on the scoreboard with key buckets for junior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.) to keep the game tied. Emerson took the game back over jumping ahead 38-28 headed into the second half.
  • Cullum started to heat up in the second half scoring eight of the next 12 points for the Chargers capped off by a thunderous poster jam to cut the deficit to 44-40 with 15:29 to play. A trifecta by Jenkins cut the lead to three points, but the Lions answered to jump the lead back to nine points with 12:54 to play. The Lions lifted the lead to a game-high 13 points with 8:04 to play, but Colby-Sawyer kept chipping away countering with a 17-1 closing run behind some high level defense down the stretch to clinch the victory.
Post Game Press:
"It was a very close game", said graduate student Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.). "The team as a whole stuck together and fought through adversity. As a shooter it is a little challenging to stay locked in when you're not shooting the ball at your best. However, every single person on the team tells me to keep shooting and trust 100% that I'll make the next shot. This win wouldn't have been possible without the camaraderie we've built among each other."

Cullum added another stat filling day with 14 points (6-12 FG, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, two steals, two assists and a block. Mosley registered a double-double with 13 points (6-12 FG, 1-1 3-FG) and 11 rebounds, while Taban added 10 points (4-4 FG, 2-3 FT), 12 rebounds and three rejections.
