Chargers Net First Win in 2023-24 Against Gordon College 79-68

WATERVILLE, Maine – On Friday, the Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season defeating Gordon College by a 79-68 final in the Colby College Tournament.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Scots jumped ahead early by a 13-2 margin behind six points by Treyton Tebbs. The Chargers battled right back with a 10-2 run sparked by five points a piece by junior Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) and junior Cha'Mar Martin (Columbia, S.C.). Another 6-1 run evened the score at 18 as with five points from junior Jaquan Mosley (Deep Run, N.C.). Gordon pushed the lead back to 27-22, but an and-one finish by junior Mike Joanou (Burbank, Calif.) led the Chargers to comeback and take the lead with 3:24 left on a finish in the paint by graduate student Bryson Jenkins (Gary, Ind.). Mosley continued his stellar play with a steal and layup to push the lead to 34-31, before Cullum swiped the ball from Alex Daniel and threw down a finish at the rim. Colby-Sawyer ended the half strong to push the lead to 40-32 on a tip-in and a thunderous tomahawk dunk by Mosley at the buzzer.
  • Colby-Sawyer kept the momentum going to kick off the second half as a Mosley jumper and a triple by Jenkins pushed the lead to 45-32. The Scots continued to fight back trimming the lead to 47-39 with 16:26 to play, but first year Sean Peterson (Chester, N.H.) kept the Chargers up by double-digits. Mosley got another highlight jam with 13:27 to play to keep the lead at 51-41, but a counter by Gordon slashed the lead to 52-47. Martin stopped the run with his energy with back-to-back tough finishes at the bucket. After another triple by Bryce Smith cut the lead to 56-50, Martin scored again followed by junior Jaisan Parker (Durham, N.C.) adding a fancy finish before junior Bullen Taban (Phoenix, Ariz.) scored four consecutive points to push the lead to 14. The lead grew to 73-55 with 2:25 remaining as Jenkins knocked down another shot from deep. Peterson added the next four points for the Chargers as Colby-Sawyer closed out the Scots by a 79-68 final.
