NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team almost pulled off a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) upset on Saturday tying the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) by a 2-2 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers had the first key chance in the 8th minute as first year Kaden Lewis (Lunenburg, Mass.) had a shot saved by Jose Miguel Garcia Martin. The Bluejays countered with an opportunity as Michael Torres in the 9th minute that first year Alex Gomez-Agudelo (Mesquite, Texas) stopped. In the 25th minute the visitors took the lead as Elijah Rodriguez sent a beautiful feed to Matthew Dima who scored past a diving Gomez-Agudelo. The Bluejays continued the momentum firing off three more shots, but Gomez-Agudelo made three key saves to keep it 1-0 headed into the break.
  • Colby-Sawyer came out of halftime with a surge as junior Ryan Wilson (Mattapoisett, Mass.) sent a screamer past the Bluejays to knot things up in the 47th minute. The momentum continued in the 64th minute as Wilson sent a set piece into the box tipped by first year Owen Barnwell (Derry, N.H.) which found the head of first year Mateo Siguenza (Guayaquil, Equador) for the score. USJ tried to battle back with three shots missing the target in the five minutes after the goal. The lead almost grew for the Chargers in the 77th minute as junior Gabriel Sperry (Enfield, N.H.) headed a shot stopped by Garcia Martin. In the final minutes the Chargers made a crucial mistake fouling in the box to setup a penalty kick. Michael Torres finished it to end the game.
