NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team got back in the win column defeating Rivier University by a 19-8 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers got on the board quickly as senior Caroline Tompkins (Marblehead, Mass.) scored on a free position to get the home team on top. Colby-Sawyer followed it up as first year Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) finished home number 16 on the year. The Raiders responded scoring their first of the day, which immediately led to a two goal response by Kuhlthau to give the Chargers a 4-1 lead. The Raiders continued to battle back scoring three of the next four goals to get the game within 5-4 before junior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) ending the period with a rocket passed the keeper.
- Junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) led the charge in the second quarter, scoring four times as the Chargers outscored the Raiders 6-1. Tompkins and sophomore Olivia Romo (Marlboro, Vt.) each added the other scores as the Chargers led 12-5 headed into the break.
- The Chargers continued the offensive show pouring in four-straight to open the third quarter as Marquis, Kuhlthau, junior Madison Gaskell (Pembroke, N.H.) and Stevens each added scores. The Raiders responded with their lone goal of the third, but Kuhlthau delivered again finishing her 21st of the year.
- The fourth quarter went by quickly with each team scoring a pair of goals. Romo and Tompkins did the scoring for the Chargers while sophomore Simone Long (Wales, Maine) got her first home action of the year with three saves in the final frame.
Player Spotlight:
"We worked together and flowed really well today", said first year
Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.). "Everything was a team effort and we really clicked. It felt good to go back to playing a man defense and get to run through our plays. Overall we played up and had fun."
Notes & Notables:
- Kuhlthau had the game of her collegiate-career scoring a career-high six goals, while dishing a career-best three assists, causing five turnovers, collecting five ground balls and securing six draw controls.
- Stevens added five goals, an assist and three ground balls, while Tompkins contributed three goals and 10 draw controls. Marquis and Romo each ended the day with a pair of goals with Marquis dished out two more assists.
- First year AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.) continued her great play with seven saves in her ninth win of the year.

The Chargers will start a three-game road trip on Saturday April 9th when Colby-Sawyer travels to Emmanuel College with a 1:00 PM start time.
