Chargers Fall in Boston to Emmanuel 18-9

BOSTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse lost its second game of 2022, falling at the hands of the Emmanuel College Saints by a 18-9 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers jumped on the board quickly as junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) found a pass from senior Caroline Tompkins (Mablehead, Mass.) and deposited it in the net just 13 seconds into the contest. The Saints responded in a big way with three-straight scores to take the 3-1 advantage. Sophomore Olivia Romo (Marlboro, Vt.) halted the scoring momentarily picking up goal number 14 on the young season. After Emmanuel scored their fourth goal of the first, Colby-Sawyer mounted a run with back-to-back goals first from a returning first year Heather Hanson (Marston Mills, Mass.) and followed by junior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.). The Saints jumped back in front with a buzzer-beating goal to take a 5-4 lead heading into the second quarter.
  • The second quarter has been the best friend for the Chargers as coming into today Colby-Sawyer has outscored opponents 52-19 in the second frame. Today would be different as for the second time in the last three games the Chargers were shut out from the scoring sheet with four saves from Saints goalie Emma Crowley. The Saints tacked on two more goals to give the home team a 7-4 lead heading into the break. First year AJ Paton (Exter, N.H.) had a big quarter with six saves to keep the game close.
  • Hanson started scoring in the third quarter finishing the free position to cut the lead to within a pair, but a response of three-straight goals got the Saints comfortably in front. Marquis tried to bring the Chargers back into it with two quick scores, but another 4-0 run by Emmanuel had the lead at 14-7 heading into the final period.
  • Hanson added a pair of scores in the fourth, but the Saints continued the home success outscoring the Chargers 4-2 to take the big Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory.
Notes & Notables:
  • Hanson returned to the lineup and regained the team lead in goals pouring in four goals to bring her season total to 34. Marquis added a hat-trick as the only multi goal scorers of the day.
