NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team's two game win streak was stopped by Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Tuesday as the undefeated Monks kept their momentum rolling winning by a 14-8 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Monks took an early 3-0 lead against the Chargers before first year Heather Hanson (Marston Mills, Mass.) rattled in goal number 49 on the season to cut the lead to 3-1. The Monks countered with a response to take the 4-1 first quarter lead.
- The second quarter was shaky for the Chargers as the Monks snuck in four unanswered goals within the 15 minutes to grow the lead to 8-1 going into halftime.
- The third quarter started with the Monks sixth consecutive goal in the afternoon. Junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) responded finishing her 41st goal on the season, hoping to lead to the Charger's potential comeback. The Chargers allowed another goal to the Monks before scoring two-straight as Stevens put home her second of the day followed by a goal by junior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) making the score 10-4. The Monks responded with a goal of their own to try to extend their lead, but three consecutive scores by the Chargers had the home team right back in it. Marquis, sophomore Olivia Romo (Marlboro, Vt.), and first year Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) beat the Monks keeper to close the Monks lead to 11-7. As the end of the quarter approached Lydia Dexter scored a huge goal for Saint Joseph's College of Maine to keep the lead at five headed into the final frame.
- The fourth quarter went by fast with only three goals in the period. The Monks would extend the lead to seven, before Marquis finished home her hat trick to end the scoring at 14-8.
