Chargers Skid Continues with Two More Losses to Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn.  – The Chargers baseball team continued its slump losing both games against Albertus Magnus College.  

Game One: (L, 13-4)
  • The Falcons took a 6-0 lead with five runs in the first inning and another run in the second inning. Junior Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.) got the Chargers on the board in the fifth with a grand slam scoring first year Griffin Wheeler (Penacook, N.H.), junior Ian Turpel (Cohasset, Mass.) and junior Jake Choiniere (St. Johnsbury, Vt.). The home run for O'Brien is his sixth of the season tied for first place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). The Chargers threatened in the sixth inning, but saw no more runs cross the plate. 
  • Albertus Magnus put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth inning pouring in seven runs to hold on for the win. 
  • Senior Jackson Parmentier (Higganum, Conn.) picked up the loss throwing three innings allowing six runs (five earned) with three strikeouts. Next was sophomore Matt Miller (Dracut, Mass.) throwing over two innings allowing seven runs with three punchouts of his own. Junior Kye Evans (Nashua, N.H.) rounded out the pitching in game one with two outs including a strikeout. 
Game Two: (L, 13-6)
  • In game two the Falcons controlled the whole way getting up 13-0 in the first two innings. 
  • The Chargers tried to mount a comeback in the fourth inning scoring six runs. The spurt was started by a two-run blast by sophomore Jack Matarese (Ashland, Mass.). Choiniere, O'Brien and first year Bailey Camacho (Attleboro, Mass.) all followed with RBI singles. 
  • The Chargers were shutdown the rest of the way falling to 7-26 on the season. 
  • First year Kam Lovelette (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) picked up the loss allowing 10 runs. First year Kenneth Spratt (Wantagh, N.Y.) followed with over two innings pitched with three runs allowed and a strikeout. First year Matt Bennett (Kingston, Mass.) followed with a clean inning of work only allowing a hit, while striking out a pair. First year Erik Rohs (Lovettsville, Va.) closed the game with two shut down innings striking out three and only allowing a walk and a single hit.
Up next:
The Chargers will be back in action on Wednesday when they will face off with Northern Vermont University - Lyndon in a double header with a 2:00 PM start.
